Tom Brodersen's letter (husband of former attorney)

Comments From Cheryl Ford RN:

After you read Mr. Brodersen's letter many of you may ask why can't Terri
be given the proper therapy she needs so she can speak for herself?

Answer in short:
Keep in mind that Terri has repeatedly been denied by Michael Schiavo her
own legal counsel, therapy, and the right to present herself into
a court room. The family is NOT permitted to record or photograph her.
Even if they were allowed, Judge Greer has denied the right to provide evidence.

--------------------
My name is Tom Brodersen.

I am attorney Pat Anderson's office manager, formerly her fiance, and more recently, her husband.

I have personal knowledge about Terri Schiavo's actual neurological condition and responsiveness which we could not use before because of Pat's role as attorney for the Schindler family.

That is now changed, and I cannot sit quietly by and passively observe a miscarriage of justice.

During the period of September to November of 2002 (from just before to shortly after the medical evidentiary hearing featuring five doctors as witnesses), I spent time with Terri Schiavo, as a person (briefly) on her visitors list.

During that time I gently spoke to her, built rapport and trust, sang to her, played music for her, and encouraged her to vocalize. Over the twenty days or so that I visited with Terri, I observed that, while Terri is distrustful of strangers, she gradually warmed up to me (and not so gradually after Bob, Mary and I sang "Those Were the Days" to her as a trio!).

Terri responds to a variety of stimulii, including responding to both her mother's and my voices, both in person and over the phone, by fixing her attention and frequently by laughing. When I sang to her, she often VOCALIZED, in her best effort to sing along with me.

She recognizes and takes great pleasure in certain singers and songs which ARE her favorites (most especially John Denver singing "Country Roads"). She learned to love several songs I sang to her with which she didn't seem to be familiar with, but others she never learned to appreciate (just not her cup of tea, obviously).

She responded to gentle requests if given time and patience, such as lifting her right leg (three times out of four requests, the other time she lifted her left leg instead).

While she does not have consistent control over her eyes to blink or look this way or that, she has excellent control over her breathing, diaphram and voice, and will vocalize in various patterns if asked. While trying to work out a yes/no system with sounds, Terri initially answered the question "Terri, are you ten feet tall" by moaning twice, which is the response for "No," then she spontaneously whispered the word "No" in response to the question "Terry, are you purple?".

At that point I abandoned the sounding system and started trying to teach her to say "Yeah" as best as she could. Bob Schindler has several recordings of her sort of saying the word "Yeah" shortly after that.

Unfortunately, I was then taken off Terri's visitors list, but on successive occasions (as recently as last October, approximately two years since I last saw her in person), when her father placed a phone to Terri's ear so I could talk to her, she laughed as soon as she heard my voice, and tried to sing along with me when I sang to her over the phone.

Terri is not just "in there," she is very responsive, she loves music, and she is my friend.

Please don't kill her.

Tom Brodersen

Cafeteria/Protestanized Catholic-Speak and me...

I am being convicted in so many areas of my life, and it really sometimes is a very painful process that I try to avoid. (Any humans out there who relish the thought of being convicted of one's sins?)

I am not, and have never claimed to be a Saint. In fact, I will be the first to tell you that I am not even in the running for the title. And sincerely MEAN it, not just trying to 'sound' humble.

"... for what I have done, and for what I have failed to do.... "

The first is almost always easy for me to recognize as sin when I think about what I have done. But the second half of that is an area that gets little attention, usually. The first area can EASILY have 'good things' that fall under it that give us a little pat on the back, too. While examining one's conscience, too often it can also give reasons to justify the Sin. But Sin falls under both COMMISSION (actually doing what is wrong) and OMISSION... (not doing what is right/needs to be done/should be done). The latter can sometimes be the more grave Sin....

I have failed somehow in an area that I will be held accountable for, in spite of really trying to live what our Church teaches. I have not passed on the Truths of the Faith, somehow, in an understandable way. I very sadly realized that when I heard more cafeteria-catholic-speak and protestanized-catholic-speak recently.

Father, forgive me, a sinner.

17 Doctors Have Filed Affidavits for Terri

Press Release
For Immediate ReleaseMarch 5, 2005 - 3.30pm ET (GMT-5)
Attorneys for Bob and Mary Schindler have filed 17 affidavits in support of their motion asking Judge Greer to let medical evaluations be performed on Terri in light of recent advances in medical technologies. The affidavits are from various experts in the medical field. They are urging that Terri be evaluated based on the fact that new evaluation and therapeutic technologies can significantly impact brain damaged and disabled persons. Many of them have stated that there is strong likelihood that Terri is in a minimally conscious state.

More affidavits are expected to be filed next week in support of the Schindler's motion.

TERRI SCHIAVO IS EACH OF US By Dorothy Anne Seese

TERRI SCHIAVO IS EACH OF US
SENTENCED TO DIE AS USELESS
By: Dorothy Anne Seese

Don't even consider the idea that Terri Schiavo's case is either unique or particular to her family in this Machiavellian age. It is neither. An individual ordered by a court, sentenced to death by starvation because she is "a useless feeder" is each and every one of us under similar circumstances, a human over whom the state has exercised the power of life and death absent any crime and punishment being involved. The punishment is for being useless, a burden to the state, considered a soulless offspring of the detestable theory of evolution that renders all of us just an accident in primordial slime.
She is me because I am disabled with a spinal fracture. She is every maimed and "useless" veteran of the wars in which America has involved itself for political reasons and left behind the unnamed military personnel, some teenagers, whose lives will be spent as disabled persons requiring continual medical care. She is each elderly person whose life has been spent going to school, getting married, having children, being a productive worker for the government's tax program and a contributor to Social Security. She is you and me and all of these people who were disabled by an accident at work, at home, in an automobile.
She is an American who was once an able-bodied person welcomed by the gods of the state. Now she has been sentenced to die as a useless feeder.
We don't have miracles any more, and this nation surely has spit in the face of God with its disregard for the sanctity of life. Sanctity of life, permanence of marriage and stability of the home belonged to some ancient age from around 1970 and prior when we had values and didn't need to broadcast it for reassurance that the lie will stick. Values indeed. If there is any value higher than that of the sanctity of life and the sovereign will of God, then even God has not made that proclamation!
America is utilitarian now, or Hegelian, or anything the government wants to brand it.
We're anything except free. We aren't human, we have no soul, and the state owns us and the children of those who are parents. Then people write and ask, "how do you figure we're not free?" Duh.
The leadership and the high courts of this nation have brought upon it the beginning of the judgment of Almighty God and the intensity of that judgment will increase with every wrong this nation perpetrates upon its own citizens and those in other sovereign nations under a translucent veil of "spreading freedom."
Beware of following the philosophy of a government that has no respect for life or belief in God. Those are elements in the statement of faith of our forefathers who built this nation. Even the atheists of their time weren't as crass as the "egalitarian" leadership of today, wicked judges and pretenders to the throne of God who will perish with their hubris.
A generation of liars in high places will bring the nation and its people to ruin, history sets its seal to that thesis.
Think about this, prospective parents, Social Security recipients, those with parents in nursing homes, and those in hazardous occupations (including driving a motor vehicle in expressway traffic): will the state take a newborn with Down's Syndrome and give it a lethal injection? Will those who paid for Social Security "insurance" stolen by the government for foreign war meddling be "vaccinated" with a lethal fluid? Will your parents suddenly have a stroke and then die while you are at work, or in the middle of the night? I received a call in the middle of the night that my mother had a second stroke, but was never apprised of the first. I was injured at work and discharged by a doctor on friendly terms with my employer as "medically stable with no permanent impairment" when I had two spinal fractures.
It can happen to anyone, yes it can happen to you, and the anyones and you and I no longer have any say in our "representative" government. Ask the people on the street if they feel adequately represented. Look at the articles, the statistics, you will find that the people want one thing and the government wants another. Guess who wins?
Terri Schiavo is one individual, a living soul who is about to suffer death by starvation at the mandate of the court of "justice" as it is now interpreted in this godless land. If our military starved an enemy captive to death there would be an international uproar and courts martial. But a helpless woman whose husband wishes to remarry? A burden to the state? Not a problem for the judges to order such a person to die.
But remember, she is not just one individual.
She is all of us, each of us, one of us.
Her judgment and sentence is ours also.
There is but one judgment for perverse judges and evildoers to fear, and that is the final judgment of God, when true justice is revealed against all unrighteousness, in this land and around the world.
We have that on infallible Authority from the Judge Himself. Amen!

Associated Press Targets Terri Schiavo

Associated Press Targets Terri Schiavo
Media repeats misrepresentations in Terri Schiavo case.
Pamela F. Hennessy for the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, 727-445-1766, phenn@zimp.org

CLEARWATER, Fl., Feb. 25 /Christian Wire Service/ --

Associated Press released a report penned by Vickie Chachere
(click on name and then slightly different version here note by WICatholic)
which cited an eating disorder as the cause of Terri Schiavo's mysterious collapse and ensuing brain injury on February 25, 1990.

Contrary to the account of writer Chachere, there was never a determination by any court nor the Florida Department of Health that Terri Schiavo ever suffered from any eating disorder, bulimia, anorexia or compulsive behavior that would lead to a heart failure at the age of 26.

Indeed, Florida's Department of Health had completely and absolutely cleared Terri's general practitioner of any negligence or wrong-doing in her case. This was after the physician had been accused by Terri's husband of ignoring evidence of an eating disorder.

Additionally, at the time of her mysterious medical episode, Terri Schiavo stood 5'3" and weighed somewhere between 115 and 118 pounds – a slim, but normal stature and weight.

Associated Press writer, Vickie Chachere cites not ONE medical document that would affirm her careless contention that Terri Schiavo was an irresponsible dieter or a compulsive victim of an eating disorder. The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation asks Ms. Chachere to readily produce the facts upon which she penned such assertions.

The parents and siblings have repeatedly offered to media and press a copy of a bone scan conducted on Terri Schiavo just one year after her incident that reveals multiple sites of trauma and broken bones throughout Terri's body. Neither the law enforcement agencies nor the media or press have made any effort to investigate why Terri Schiavo's body was seemingly broken by battery.

Instead, they perpetuate the unsubstantiated claims that Terri Schiavo suffered from an eating disorder that rendered her healthy, 26 year-old heart incapable of carrying on.

Statement of Robert Schindler, Terri's' Father: "This is a slanderous accusation against my daughter with no basis in fact. Certain members of the press are leading a personal crusade to kill Terri."

The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation is calling upon all of media and press to take up the task of investigating allegations of serious abuse against Terri Schiavo as are evidenced in the 1991 bone scan and well as ongoing violations against Terri under Florida's Guardianship Statutes.

There's a MYRIAD Number of Articles out there...

Spent a lot of time reading and catching up on my google alerts and other emails today, and have found many good articles on Terri. Going to put them all here in one email, with a short description of some, and encourage all to at least skim them.

Too many have false beliefs about her medical condition based on media statements made my unqualified people who do NOT have any medical background and choose, instead, to make assumptions or to take the word of those trying to kill Terri.... do the research yourself and learn that she is NOT dying and that there are questionable events that make her execution a gross miscarriage of justice.

Upon learning of another life extension for Terri Schiavo, liberals went all apoplectic on me. If only Schiavo were a Guantanamo Bay detainee could we finally convince liberals to not rip the feeding tubes from her body in order to let her slowly starve to death. Or as liberals prefer: “to let her die with dignity.”

Another Aussie for Terri and free music to boot!

I found an article entitled 'Terri Schiavo is Not PVS" and had to follow it to find its source.

Though the article appeared on www.useless-knowledge.com , there is a piece about the author which shows his website on Terri, with that article linked, and five others...and an additional link that says "Over 50 hours of music for Terri and for free". After I had read his articles, not wanting to miss the free music offer, I went there, and saw a list of many piano pieces. Not one to let things go, I then googled the author and added Australia, and found more about this man.

His article, 'Terri Schiavo is NOT PVS' uses Michael's own sworn testimony to prove that she is not. Very good, very interesting, and very true. Though as a nurse reading his writing, some of his article in the article Is Terri Force Fed? weren't exactly right on... his point is.

SOOO, go to his website, read his articles, listen to his free music, and then, join him in prayer for Terri, and perhaps write to him and thank him for the music...and for caring.

Duplicitous Justification of Adultery

For many years, I have been speaking out against forced, unilateral 'no-fault' divorce where the respondent basically has no rights other than to 'accept' what is happening and 'get on with life'. One has only got the right to make property division and child custody/support agreements, not a right to defend themselves from an unwanted and often unwarranted divorce...often at the hands/request of a plaintiff already actively involved in another relationship .. in other words, Adultery.

Then, at the same time, I spoke out against the number of declarations of nullity in our Church based on the questionable grounds used, that are most often overturned IF the person knows that they have a right to appeal to the Roman Rota and pursues that avenue in spite of the strong discouragement to do so by most US Tribunals. The original petitioners in these are often the very ones that destroyed the marriage in the first place.

Over those years, I have heard MANY justifications for breaking vows that are not breakable before God. I have never heard it done so slickly as in this case, by Attorney George Felos, in explaining his client's 'love' for Terri and his Adulterous Relationships (yes, there have been more than just one...)

I just came across this article in which Felos justifies (as do MANY Americans) breaking marriage vows... and says that those who uphold the marriage vows and think that adultery is wrong are.... 'cruel-hearted'. And his words are geared to making us all understand how very hard it is to love his wife and be faithful to her..... in sickness, in bad times, til natural death parts them. Are we to feel sorry for Michael????

Yes, I have been told that, also. I have been told that if I truly loved the father of my children, I would want him to be happy no matter WHOM he may be with. False teachings like this abound. We are responsible for trying to help our spouses enter Heaven, for the mutual Salvation of the couple. The generation before us understood this. There is a really good diary out there about Elizabeth Leseur, married to Felix. Upon her death, Felix found her diary, and was repentant, converted and became a Dominican priest. He led retreats, at least ONE of which was attended by our own Archbishop Fulton J Sheen.

Adultery is a 'grave sin' in today's terminology. It used to be called (and still is, in reality) MORTAL SIN which is sufficient to keep us out of Heaven. Mr Felos has spread not only a false teaching about the taking of Terri's life as being MERCIFUL instead of MURDER, but now justifies ADULTERY. May God have Mercy on his soul, and on that of Michael Schiavo. Pray for their conversion.

Also in this article, which I strongly recommend reading, is the account of Pat Anderson's husband Tom Brodersen, with degrees in speech pathology and law, who spent time interacting with Terri, and was teaching her to say yes after he realized she already said 'no'....

Our vows:
The groom says:I (...), take you (...) to be my wife.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

The bride says:I (...), take you (...) to be my husband.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

More on Judge's error/ ALL calls on the Bishops

First, an excellently written article here on the error of Judge Greerin discounting the testimony of Terri's friend about her wishes....
'Clear and Convincing Evidence' of Schiavo's Wishes Challenged

Second, another article that refers to American Life League
Where Are the Catholic Priests, Pro-Life Group Wonders

Third, not sure this url will take you directly to the press releasereferred to in the article above or not, so it is printed below:
http://www.all.org/hp9.htm

American Life League calls on Catholic churches to engage in prayer and action for Terri Schiavo. American Life League denounces the inhumane death sentence that will be imposed upon Terri Schiavo if Judge George Greer does not reverse his order to remove her feeding tube on March 18. "Judge Greer's ruling is unconscionable," said Judie Brown, president of AmericanLife League. "Terri is not being treated as the living, breathing human person that she is. Rather, her basic civil rights are being tragically trampled upon.

"Terri Schiavo is a disabled woman currently living in a Florida hospice. She is not terminally ill, and is able to breathe on her own. She does, however, require a feeding tube for routine nutrition and hydration. "Time is running out for Terri, but we encourage people not but we encourage people not to give up hope," Brown explained. "Now more than ever, the Catholic Church must pray and take action on Terri's behalf. Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg and his brother bishops across Florida and the rest of the United States must not let Terri die a painful death while they quietly sit by and do nothing.

"The Florida Catholic Conference released a statement Feb. 28 stating its "continued concerns for Terri Schiavo." Said Brown, "To the best of our knowledge, there has been a tremendous lack of effort from the Florida Catholic Conference - and in particular from Bishop Lynch, who is Terri's bishop - to assist in this situation. Now is the time for them to offer Masses for Terri's safety and encourage every priest in Florida do likewise, preaching from the pulpits on why one can never remove food and water from a person whose death is not imminent. The priests should also be encouraged to participate in public vigils and prayer services for Terri and to contact public officials insisting that everything possible be done to protect this innocent woman'slife.

"If Terri's feeding tube is removed, it could take as long as several weeks for her to die an excruciating death from starvation and dehydration. "We call on Catholics everywhere to pray for Terri and for the spiritual conversion of her husband, Michael," Brown said,"All Christians - clergy and lay people alike - must display true courage and stand against this injustice. Terri is not dead yet and we must do all we can to prevent that tragedy from occurring."

Judge releases DCF document in Schiavo case
Terri Schiavo
Click here to see the DCF document seeking intervention in the Terri Schiavo case

A judge released the DCF document seeking intervention in the Terri Schiavo case. She's the brain-damaged woman at the center of a "right to die" battle.
The department of children and families document names Michael Schiavo as responsible for the mistreatment of his wife.
The nine complaints cited are very technical. They essentially claim the abuse or neglect of Terri is in the form of the kind of medical treatment Terri is, or in some cases is not receiving.

The complaint accuses Michael Schiavo of:

1. Failure to educate using certain therapies in violation of guardianship

2. Experimental procedures performed without proper medical and legal procedures observed.

3. Lack of manipulation of the ward's (Terri’s) arms causing severe contractures
Circuit judge George Greer says he will make the document available to the public tomorrow. Greer ordered Terri Schiavo's feeding tube be removed march 18th.

von Galen's Sermon against T4 program

Sermon Delivered by Bishop Clemens August Count of Galen on August 3, 1941

The Third Sermon, preached in the Church of St. Lambert's on August 3rd, 1941,in which the Bishop attacks the Nazi practice of euthanasia and condemns the ‘mercy killings’ taking place in his own diocese.

My Beloved Brethren,
In today's Gospel we read of an unusual event: Our Saviour weeps. Yes, the Son of God sheds tears. Whoever weeps must be either in physical or mental anguish. At that time Jesus was not yet in bodily pain and yet here were tears. What depth of torment He must have felt in His heart and Soul, if He, the bravest of men, was reduced to tears. Why is He weeping? He is lamenting over Jerusalem, the holy city He loved so tenderly, the capital of His race. He is weeping over her inhabitants, over His own compatriots because they cannot foresee the judgment that is to overtake them, the punishment which His divine prescience and justice have pronounced. ‘Ah, if thou too couldst understand, above all in this day that is granted thee, the ways that can bring thee peace!’ Why did the people of Jerusalem not know it? Jesus had given them the reason a short time before. ‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem . . . how often have I been ready to gather thy children together, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings; and thou didst refuse it! I your God and your King wished it, but you would have none of Me. . . .’ This is the reason for the tears of Jesus, for the tears of God. . . . Tears for the misrule, the injustice and man's willful refusal of Him and the resulting evils, which, in His divine omniscience, He foresees and which in His justice He must decree. . . . It is a fearful thing when man sets his will against the will of God, and it is because of this that Our Lord is lamenting over Jerusalem.

My faithful brethren! In the pastoral letter drawn up by the German Hierarchy on the 26th of June at Fulda and appointed to be read in all the churches of Germany on July 6th, it is expressly stated: ‘According to Catholic doctrine, there are doubtless commandments which are not binding when obedience to them requires too great a sacrifice, but there are sacred obligations of conscience from which no one can release us and which we must fulfil even at the price of death itself. At no time, and under no circumstances whatsoever, may a man, except in war and in lawful defence, take the life of an innocent person.’

When this pastoral was read on July 6th I took the opportunity of adding this exposition:
For the past several months it has been reported that, on instructions from Berlin, patients who have been suffering for a long time from apparently incurable diseases have been forcibly removed from homes and clinics. Their relatives are later informed that the patient has died, that the body has been cremated and that the ashes may be claimed. There is little doubt that these numerous cases of unexpected death in the case of the insane are not natural, but often deliberately caused, and result from the belief that it is lawful to take away life which is unworthy of being lived.

This ghastly doctrine tries to justify the murder of blameless men and would seek to give legal sanction to the forcible killing of invalids, cripples, the incurable and the incapacitated. I have discovered that the practice here in Westphalia is to compile lists of such patients who are to be removed elsewhere as ‘unproductive citizens,’ and after a period of time put to death. This very week, the first group of these patients has been sent from the clinic of Marienthal, near Münster.

Paragraph 21 of the Code of Penal Law is still valid. It states that anyone who deliberately kills a man by a premeditated act will be executed as a murderer. It is in order to protect the murderers of these poor invalids—members of our own families—against this legal punishment, that the patients who are to be killed are transferred from their domicile to some distant institution. Some sort of disease is then given as the cause of death, but as cremation immediately follows it is impossible for either their families or the regular police to ascertain whether death was from natural causes.

I am assured that at the Ministry of the Interior and at the Ministry of Health, no attempt is made to hide the fact that a great number of the insane have already been deliberately killed and that many more will follow.

Article 139 of the Penal Code expressly lays down that anyone who knows from a reliable source of any plot against the life of a man and who does not inform the proper authorities or the intended victim, will be punished. . . .

When I was informed of the intention to remove patients from Marienthal for the purpose of putting them to death I addressed the following registered letter on July 29th to the Public Prosecutor, the Tribunal of Münster, as well as to the Head of the Münster Police:
‘I have been informed this week that a considerable number of patients from the provincial clinic of Marienthal are to be transferred as citizens alleged to be "unproductive" to the institution of Richenberg, there to be executed immediately; and that according to general opinion, this has already been carried out in the case of other patients who have been removed in like manner. Since this sort of procedure is not only contrary to moral law, both divine and natural, but is also punishable by death, according to Article 211 of the Penal Code, it is my bounden obligation in accordance with Article 139 of the same Code to inform the authorities thereof. Therefore I demand at once protection for my fellow countrymen who are threatened in this way, and from those who purpose to transfer and kill them, and I further demand to be informed of your decision.’

I have received no news up till now of any steps taken by these authorities. On July 26th I had already written and dispatched a strongly worded protest to the Provincial Administration of Westphalia which is responsible for the clinics to which these patients have been entrusted for care and treatment. My efforts were of no avail. The first batch of innocent folk have left Marienthal under sentence of death, and I am informed that no less than eight hundred cases from the institution of Waestein have now gone. And so we must await the news that these wretched defenceless patients will sooner or later lose their lives. Why? Not because they have committed crimes worthy of death, not because they have attacked guardians or nurses as to cause the latter to defend themselves with violence which would be both legitimate and even in certain cases necessary, like killing an armed enemy soldier in a righteous war.

No, these are not the reasons why these unfortunate patients are to be put to death. It is simply because that according to some doctor, or because of the decision of some committee, they have no longer a right to live because they are ‘unproductive citizens’. The opinion is that since they can no longer make money, they are obsolete machines, comparable with some old cow that can no longer give milk or some horse that has gone lame. What is the lot of unproductive machines and cattle? They are destroyed. I have no intention of stretching this comparison further. The case here is not one of machines or cattle which exist to serve men and furnish them with plenty. They may be legitimately done away with when they can no longer fulfil their function. Here we are dealing with human beings, with our neighbours, brothers and sisters, the poor and invalids . . . unproductive—perhaps! But have they, therefore, lost the right to live? Have you or I the right to exist only because we are ‘productive’? If the principle is established that unproductive human beings may be killed, then God help all those invalids who, in order to produce wealth, have given their all and sacrificed their strength of body. If all unproductive people may thus be violently eliminated, then woe betide our brave soldiers who return home, wounded, maimed or sick.

Once admit the right to kill unproductive persons . . . then none of us can be sure of his life. We shall be at the mercy of any committee that can put a man on the list of unproductives. There will be no police protection, no court to avenge the murder and inflict punishment upon the murderer. Who can have confidence in any doctor? He has but to certify his patients as unproductive and he receives the command to kill. If this dreadful doctrine is permitted and practised it is impossible to conjure up the degradation to which it will lead. Suspicion and distrust will be sown within the family itself. A curse on men and on the German people if we break the holy commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ which was given us by God on Mount Sinai with thunder and lightning, and which God our Maker imprinted on the human conscience from the beginning of time! Woe to us German people if we not only licence this heinous offence but allow it to be committed with impunity!

I will now give you a concrete example of what is taking place here. A fifty-five-year-old peasant from a country parish near Münster—I could give you his name—has been cared for in the clinic of Marienthal for some years suffering from some mental derangement. He was not hopelessly mad, in fact he could receive visitors and was always pleased to see his family. About a fortnight ago he had a visit from his wife and a soldier son who was home on leave from the front. The latter was devoted to his sick father. Their parting was sad, for they might not see each other again as the lad might fall in battle. As it happens this son will never set eyes on his father again because he is on the list of the ‘unproductives’. A member of the family who was sent to see the father at Marienthal was refused admission and was informed that the patient had been taken away on the orders of the Council of Ministers of National Defence. His whereabouts was unknown. The family would receive official notification in due course. What will this notice contain? Will it be like all the others, namely that the man is dead and that the ashes of his body will be sent on the receipt of so much money to defray expenses? And so the son who is now risking his life at the front for his German compatriots will never again see his father. These are the true facts and the names of all those concerned are available.

‘Thou shalt not kill.’ God engraved this commandment on the souls of men long before any penal code laid down punishment for murder, long before any court prosecuted and avenged homicide. Cain, who killed his brother Abel, was a murderer long before courts or states came into existence, and plagued by his conscience he confessed, ‘Guilt like mine is too great to find forgiveness . . . and I shall wander over the earth, a fugitive; anyone I meet will slay me.’
Because of His love for us God has engraved these commandments in our hearts and has made them manifest to us. They express the need of our nature created by God. They are the unchangeable and fundamental truths of our social life grounded on reason, well pleasing to God, healthful and sacred. God, Our Father, wishes by these precepts to gather us, His children, about Him as a hen shelters her brood under her wings. If we are obedient to His commands, then we are protected and preserved against the destruction with which we are menaced, just as the chicks beneath the wings of the mother. ‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem . . . how often have I been ready to gather thy children together, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings; and thou didst refuse it!’

Does history again repeat itself here in Germany, in our land of Westphalia, in our city of Münster? Where in Germany and where, here, is obedience to the precepts of God? The eighth commandment requires ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour’. How often do we see this commandment publicly and shamelessly broken? In the seventh commandment we read, ‘Thou shalt not steal’. But who can say that property is safe when our brethren, monks and nuns, are forcibly and violently despoiled of their convents, and who now protects property if it is illegally sequestered and not given back?

The sixth commandment tells us, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’. Consider the instructions and assurances laid down on the question of free love and child-bearing outside the marital law in the notorious open letter of Rudolf Hess, who has since vanished, which appeared in the Press. In this respect look at the immorality and indecency everywhere in Münster today. Our young people have little respect for the propriety of dress today. Thus is modesty, the custodian of purity, destroyed, and the way for adultery lies open.

How do we observe the fourth commandment which enjoins obedience and respect to parents and superiors? Parental authority is at a low ebb and is constantly being enfeebled by the demands made upon youth against the wishes of the parents. How can real respect and conscientious obedience to the authority of the State be maintained, to say nothing of the Divine commandments, if one is fighting against the one and only true God and His Faith?

The first three commandments have long counted for nothing in the public life of Germany and here also in Münster . . .. The Sabbath is desecrated; Holy Days of Obligation are secularized and no longer observed in the service of God. His name is made fun of, dishonoured and all too frequently blasphemed. As for the first commandment, ‘Thou shalt not have strange gods before me’, instead of the One, True, Eternal God, men have created at the dictates of their whim, their own gods to adore Nature, the State, the Nation or the Race. In the words of St. Paul, for many their god is their belly, their ease, to which all is sacrificed down to conscience and honour for the gratification of the carnal senses, for wealth and ambition. Then we are not surprised that they should claim divine privileges and seek to make themselves overlords of life and death.

‘And as He drew near, and caught sight of the city, He wept over it, and said: "Ah, if thou too couldst understand, above all in this day that is granted thee, the ways that can bring thee peace! As it is, they are hidden from thy sight. The days will come upon thee when thy enemies will fence thee round about, and encircle thee, and press thee hard on every side, and bring down in ruin both thee and thy children that are in thee, not leaving one stone of thee upon another; and all because thou didst not recognize the time of My visiting thee."’
Jesus saw only the walls and towers of the city of Jerusalem with His human eye, but with His divine prescience He saw far beyond and into the inmost heart of the city and its inhabitants. He saw its wicked obstinacy, terrible, sinful and cruel. Man, a transitory creature, was opposing his mean will to the Will of God. That is the reason why Jesus wept for this fearful sin and its inevitable punishment. God is not mocked.

Christians of Münster! Did the Son of God in His omniscience see only Jerusalem and its people? Did He weep only on their behalf? Is God the protector and Father of the Jews only? Is Israel alone in rejecting His divine truth? Are they the only people to throw off the laws of God and plunge headlong to ruin? Did not Jesus, Who sees everything, behold also our German people, our land of Westphalia and the Lower Rhine, and our city of Münster? Has He not also wept for us? For a thousand years He has instructed us and our forbears in the Faith. He has led us by His law. He has nourished us with His grace and has gathered us to Him as the hen does her brood beneath its wings. Has the all-knowing Son of God seen that in our own time He would have to pronounce on us that same dread sentence? ‘Not leaving one stone of thee upon another; and all because thou didst not recognize the time of My visiting thee.’ That would indeed be a terrible sentence.

My dearly Beloved, I trust that it is not too late. It is time that we realized today what alone can bring us peace, what alone can save us and avert the divine wrath. We must openly, and without reserve, admit our Catholicism. We must show by our actions that we will live our lives by obeying God's commandments. Our motto must be: Death rather than sin. By pious prayer and penance we can bring down upon us all, our city and our beloved German land, His grace and forgiveness.

But those who persist in inciting the anger of God, who revile our Faith, who hate His commandments, who associate with those who alienate our young men from their religion, who rob and drive out our monks and nuns, who condemn to death our innocent brothers and sisters, our fellow human beings, we shun absolutely so as to remain undefiled by their blasphemous way of life, which would lay us open to that just punishment which God must and will inflict upon all those who, like the thankless Jerusalem, oppose their wishes to those of God.

O my God, grant to us all now on this very day, before it is too late, a true realization of the things that are for peace. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, oppressed even unto tears by the blindness and sins of men, help us by Thy grace to seek always what is pleasing to Thee and reject what is displeasing, so that we may dwell in Thy Love and find rest in our souls. Amen.

Get Down There! by Steve O'Brien

This is one heck of a challenge to the Bishops, and I hope some of them see this and ACT on it!

Especially those in Florida.

Get Down There!
by Steve O'Brien
Prior to the War of 1812, the British emissary to Washington, D.C., Francis James "Copenhagen" Jackson described Americans as "all alike", except that some few were "less knaves than others." While I do not share that vitriolic Englishman's estimation of all Americans, that pithy quote flies to my mind whenever I consider the American bishops. The most notorious are indefensible, their sins and crimes so grievous, particularly their actions against children, that decent Catholics can feel nothing but contempt. Other bishops, less spectacular though scarcely admirable, are walk-behinders, silent about the wrongdoings of their brother bishops and the endless assaults of organized anti-Catholic groups. A handful of prelates occasionally utter some sensible words but in the end remain, as in Jackson's phrase, simply "less knaves than others."
The lesson for today is Terri (Schindler) Schiavo. If ever there was a test case to determine the relative worth of the episcopal system to the laity, this is it. Since there has been considerable publicity regarding Terri's case, the facts are well known: a young woman mysteriously suffered brain damage and must be fed through a tube. She is not in a coma and neither is she in a "persistent vegetative state" as the fonts of disinformation in the press keep telling us. Her husband cashed-in by suing her doctors. Since then he has been frantic to get her present medicos to starve her to death. Her parents want to save her and Florida governor Jeb Bush made an effort to shield her by law. Instead, a circuit court judge will decide her fate, either by ordering the continuation of providing sustenance or allowing her to die by agonizing starvation.

Every Catholic should be out of his chair in rage over this case, not that there aren't similar ones playing out every day. Collectively, Catholics in America are woefully oblivious of their own past. More than others, the forty-something million of us who have Irish ancestors really can't let this pass. Many of us live in America because of a starvation, because of an appalling 19th century holocaust that rivaled anything that happened in the 20th century. The Irish were starved because their overlords in the British government wished it so. Catholics existed solely on the potato, useful otherwise as pig fodder. All through the starvation years, other foodstuffs produced in Ireland were shipped to England as Irish Catholics fell dead on the docks.
Most folks might know this story in a general way but few probably understand what it means to starve to death. The person who succumbs to starvation doesn't merely feel hungry for a few days and then drifts off peacefully in her sleep. If water is still consumed, the suffering soul goes through the torments of hell. After a few days there is no "hunger" in the ordinary sense but an awful resignation. The victim is blinded, her kidneys and bowels fail, the skin deteriorates and the weakened immune system is then susceptible to attack by any number of pathogens. The victims of the Irish starvation died horrible deaths while their hateful, foreign government and the world stood by.

American Catholics of all ethnic backgrounds should resolve to never forget what was done in Ireland. So we have Terri, a Catholic woman perilously close to being killed by the same technique that exterminated millions of our people in Ireland . Terri is the Irish holocaust writ small and what ultimately happens to her is vital to us all.

Now what of the bishops? Need we say that they're behaving exactly as expected — that is, disgracefully? Terri's father recently spoke about her on EWTN and when asked about his bishop, Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, Mr. Schindler indicated that he was, to say the least, less than dynamic. Of course Lynch has better things to do than to speak up for a helpless Catholic woman about to be tortured and murdered on his watch. There are always luncheons and ecumenical gatherings to attend and "unconventional" but very progressive priests to be moved from parish to parish. It's undeniable that in the post-conciliar Church there's so much to do, and so little time.

Mr. Schindler did indicate that a few bishops outside of the diocese offered some verbal support, but what of it? Neither Schiavo nor the legions of pro-death activists seeking Terri's end are afraid of disembodied voices heard meekly from chanceries 500 or 1,000 miles from the scene of the crime. Do these few bishops believe they have any spiritual credentials which can affect the happenings in Florida? The forces of evil do not blanch from sound-bites. Considering everything done by the bishops in recent decades, anyone would be justified in thinking of these men as Teddy Roosevelt characterized William McKinley, that they "have no more backbone than a chocolate eclair."

I do not wear a red hat and watching this atrocious situation from Boston I have no idea if the prelates are in a huddle and have some "secret plan" to become men at the last minute and act to save Terri. But may a broken-down history professor who knows a little bit about America's Catholic past offer a few suggestions regarding Terri's and our future?

First, if there is even one bishop with a shred of goodness, get down there, man. Most all the prelates couldn't be bothered to trouble about this, but is there even one, God forbid two or more, who have the nerve to don their royal raiments, hop in their limos and show up at the facility in Pinellas Park where Terri is being held? Once there, your eminence, make a stink. Cause a racket. Bang the pots and pans. Announce to the staff and hence the world that you are not about to let this woman be murdered without a fight. This will rattle the staff.

Unaccustomed to seeing a Catholic bishop take a courageous stand, they may panic and call the police. Good. When the cops arrive, get busted. Tell the boys that you refuse to leave and that they'll have to drag you out of there in cuffs, kicking and screaming. But be sure you have called Fox News ahead of time and bring along bus loads of parishioners , all armed with those marvelous video recorders. You may even get lucky if the cops decide to work you over in custody. This will be a little hard on your bones but it will do wonders for your soul. Recall, many of our best men and women, in the tradition of our Lord Himself, have been brutalized by the authorities for standing up for the Faith. Believe me, you'll be in better moral company than with your usual crowd.

When the film hits the fan, there will be an immediate, electric reaction. Anti-Catholic forces will be enraged and impotently sputter their favorite slogan about separation of Church and State. Enlightened, up-to-date Catholics will be embarrassed and then resume their perusal of the latest Andy Greeley potboiler. The other bishops will scamper into their crevices. But if any bishop had the moxie to act thusly, he would, in one fell swoop, become a hero to every Catholic, every person, with a conscience.

Speaking of the police, I also have a suggestion for Terri's father. Though some experts believe Terri's condition may have been induced by a beating and strangulation, Mr. Schindler has said that the police have from the start "stonewalled" the family's pleas for an investigation. This in itself bears investigation. The authorities routinely work on "cold case files" of people who have been dead for decades. Terri isn't even "cold," yet the cops won't help her family discover the truth about how or who put her in her lamentable condition. If Mr. Schindler has any money left, perhaps he could spend some on a reputable private investigation agency to look into the police department. Remember, motive, motive, motive. Who is the local police chief and why has be "stonewalled" on this case? Pressure from above? Emoluments from below? Turn the hot lights on the authorities, publicize their role and see if they suddenly decide to do the right thing. If Terri was indeed garroted, it shouldn't be too difficult to turn up a suspect.

Now the chance of even one bishop acting heroically is slim. Yet even the lukewarm can, from their well-appointed offices, be a little more helpful. For instance, Terri's husband, so desperate to see her expire, has been living with another woman for years and they have produced two spawn out of wedlock. It seems that the bishops might possibly tear themselves away from kissing korans and blessing menorahs to mention that this behavior is what used to be called, in the pre-Vatican II Church, "sinful." At one time, many bishops used to preach against it. This may not alter the legal situation for Terri, still it would illustrate the character of those who want her dead.

Groups hostile to the Church routinely issue statements to the affect that the bishops in Third Reich Germany were silent about Hitler's crimes. That's untrue, but the weakest of the German bishops were as lions compared to modern American prelates. Certainly there are various groups rallying to support Terri, but if this isn't a moral issue for the bishops, nothing is. If they don't act now, they never will. Both churchmen and laity have, overwhelmingly, remained silent about the abortion holocaust and most remain silent about the killing of helpless innocents by judicial fiat. Catholics have been subjected to government extermination programs many times throughout history. In England. In Germany. In Poland. In Ireland. In America, the days are coming.

A favorite catch phrase of the Vatican II Church is "offer it up", repeated ad nauseum. This is supposed to mean something like "all is God's will so be resigned to bad things." Except it's not. What is likely to happen to Terri isn't God's will, it's man's. And if Terri is "offered up" as today's sacrifice, be assured that she will be joined by many, many more of us before very long.
(As I write, there has been another temporary stay issued, essentially a stay of execution. Terri has been granted another chance. So then, have the bishops. Get down there! NOW! Pray for Terri!)

My response to Bishop Lynch's statement....

Bishop Lynch,

Have you ever seen Terri?
Have you ever visited her?

Terri is not "in extremis"
in extremis: In very bad circumstances; at the point of death.

in ex·tre·mis (ĭn ĕk-strē'mĭs) adv.
1. At the point of death.
2. In grave or extreme circumstances.

(in ex-tree-miss) adj. Derived from Latin and refers to confronting impending death. )

in extremis. near death.

But she soon WILL be when they stop feeding her and giving her water. This is called KILLING her, as she is NOT DYING right now.... but she WILL be, when the death order is carried out.

Bishop Lynch, do you know anything about the Lion of Munster? He could teach you a lot about euthanasia and speaking out against it, and HERE, you don't even need to worry about being killed nor imprisoned for speaking Truth.

DEFEND TERRI, and call this for what it is, please. SIN. MURDER. ADULTERY. And stand by her faithful Catholic parents who REALLY want to allow the Lord to call her home IN HIS TIME!!!

GO and SEE TERRI! She LAUGHS. She NOTICES strangers, and she interacts with her family.

PROTECT THE INNOCENT!! Terri has done nothing wrong to warrant the death penalty!

God bless and forgive you for not having protected one of the least of your sheep.

Sincerely

Terri’s Bishop Issues Bizarre Statement

Implies Schindlers should accept her imminent death and reconcile with her killer

ST. PETERSBURG, March 2, 2005
(LifeSitenews.com) -

For some time now, pro-life Catholics fighting to save the life of Terri Schiavo, have been clamouring for a statement or intervention by the bishop of St. Petersburg Florida, Terri’s home diocese. Now that such a statement has finally been made, the same pro-lifers might well be wishing Bishop Robert N. Lynch had maintained his silence.
I am one who does

The Florida Catholic Bishops’ conference has stated plainly that Terri’s means of receiving food and water does not constitute ‘extraordinary’ means of preserving her life, and is a simple requirement of ordinary care. Bishop Lynch, a signatory to that statement, has in a statement of his own, implied that Terri is at death’s door, and indicates that his only concern is the lack of “peace” between her estranged husband Michael Schiavo and her parents.

Terri is not at death's door, but WILL be when they remove the tube and do not offer her food and water... in other words, starve her to death... another word for kill her.

Bishop Lynch’s comments are bizarre and shocking given the fact that Michael Schiavo has abandoned his wife and has taken up an adulterous liaison with another woman with whom he has sired two children and has campaigned to end Terri’s life by starving her to death.

Bishop Lynch moves from the bizarre and shocking to the outrageous when he implies that this lack of “peace,” is the fault of her parents for being determined to save her life. “This (peace) will not happen in this instance because of the seeming intractability of both sides,” he writes. His statement amounts to an admonition to Terri’s parents to accept that she will die by starvation and to be reconciled with her would-be killer.

“Normally, at the end of life,” writes Lynch, “families of the person in extremis agree that it is time to allow the Lord to call a loved one to Himself, feeling that they have done all they possibly might to provide alternatives to death, every possible treatment protocol which might be helpful has been attempted.” Those who have followed Terri’s case will find this inexplicable since it is Michael Schiavo who has total control over Terri and has, against the pleadings of Terri’s parents, refused her any kind of rehabilitative therapy.

Terri is NOT in extremis, Bishop Lynch. She WILL be soon, when they starve her to death.

Lynch goes on to say that the decision to starve Terri to death is one that will be made by ‘a family’ which, incomprehensibly, he identifies as Michael Schiavo alone. He writes, “As I have said from the beginning of this sad situation, the decision will be made within a family.”

Then, in comments that seem calculated to outrage and injure Terri’s family, Bishop Lynch says, “I urge and pray that before the finality, one last effort be made for mediation.” Terri’s life is threatened by no pre-existing medical condition and the only reason for ‘finality’ is Michael Schiavo’s determination to create it.

Inexplicable also is the apparent unconcern of the Bishop for saving Terri’s life, an indifference that will outrage Catholics since he also took no action when Michael refused to allow Terri visits from a priest and to receive the sacraments.

“The legacy of Terri’s situation should not be that of those who love her the most, loathing the actions of one another…but of a heroic moment of concern for the feelings of each other… with a single focus of achieving the best result for Terri.”

The best for Terri is to die of starvation???? Terri is NOT DYING, Bishop Lynch, but she WILL be when they stop providing her with food and water!!!!! This is called STARVING SOMEONE TO DEATH!

Bishop Lynch, in spite of the evidence that Michael’s only interest is in seeing his wife die, declines to say what result would be “best.”

“I beg and pray,” writes Lynch, “that both sides might step back a little and allow some mediation in these final hours.”

I hope and pray that Bishop Lynch will realize what he is saying and go to Terri's bedside as soon as possible to HELP HER.... Lord, Have Mercy!

Judge Greer may have made 'fatal' mistake...

A criminal convicted of capital murder is granted clemency or a stay of execution. Why can't Terri be granted the same as someone sentenced to death? I know many have thought of this, also, but I have not found ANY answers.

Terri is INNOCENT, and does not deserve a death sentence. And now, we read that it may be due to an error on the part of Judge Greer.......

I have previously written about Karen Anne Quinlan on Mon Dec 20, 2004. Karen collapsed on April 17, 1975, and was on a respirator (which is TRULY being kept breathing by a machine... ) and her parents asked the courts to have that machine removed. At NO time did they ask for her to be starved or dehydrated. The respirator was weaned off, and Karen continued to breathe on her own.

For the next nine years, Karen Anne lived without any machines. Karen died a natural death on June 11, 1985. Karen's case is often pointed to by proponents of Terri's death as precedent.

However, at NO TIME did Karen's parents EVER try to remove food and water from Karen, nor did they EVER think that this was appropriate. Karen was fed until Karen could not tolerate the food/water any longer when she was truly dying. (I personally do not know if they decided not to treat the pneumonia she died from, and am not sure I would be able to find this information. As to my thoughts/feelings about that aspect, it would completely depend on what her health and condition was at the time of the pneumonia, etc)

One of Terri's friends had testified in court about a conversation that she and Terri had had about Karen Anne Quinlan. Her testimony was dismissed by Greer because he thought Karen had died in 1976 when the courts allowed the respirtator to be discontinued.....

That error of his, in any criminal court would be enough for a new trial... what happens in civil court? In this case, because it involves a decision for someone's death... it should matter HERE, also.

See the entire article about this news............ and pray.....

Fr Rob's Blog "How Can He Continue As Guardian?"

With apologies to Fr Rob, I have tried several times to just link my thoughts to the following article he wrote, but have not been successful in doing so. This MD that he refers to and interviewed holds the same opinion that I, as a nurse/hygienist, have. NOTHING should be done without those tests. But I go just a little further and say that even WITH those tests, no one has the right to kill Terri, who is NOT DYING. That said, this is a very thought-provoking article, and part of the reason is that simply... Michael is also a nurse, and KNOWS this....

WI Catholic

How Can He Continue As Guardian?

That's the question a well-respected neurologist asked me yesterday about Michael Schiavo.

I was interviewing him for an article I'm working on about Terri, and he readily admitted that up until the last week or so, he hadn't followed her case very closely. He told me that he had the impression that the case had become a vehicle for the "right-to-die" movement (which it certainly is). He also said that given the Schindlers' willingness to take care of Terri, he couldn't understand why there was even talk of ending her life. "In the medical community", he told me, "there's generally a default position to preserve the patient's life in doubtful cases, especially when there are family members willing to bear the burden of caring for the patient."

In the course of our conversation, he made reference to the standard use of MRI and PET scans to diagnose the extent of brain injuries. He seemed to assume that these had been done for Terri. I stopped him and told him that these tests have never been done for her; that Michael had refused these tests.

There was a moment of dead silence.

"How can he continue as guardian?", the neurologist said in a tone of utter incredulity. "He refused a non-invasive test? How can they be debating a life and death decision without these tests?"

He explained to me that the use of the MRI and PET scans are considered standard for diagnosing brain injuries. He told me that he wouldn't dream of making a diagnosis in a case like Terri's without those tests. I told him that CT scans had been done, and were the basis for the finding of PVS.

The doctor snorted, and said, "A head CT is useful in cases of trauma, in an emergency room situation, but it only gives you a tenth of the information an MRI does." He said, "people trying to do the right thing want the best and most complete information available. We don't have that in Terri's case."

He said, "I can't believe intelligent people are debating this woman's life without these tests."

Doctor, you're not the only one wondering...

So Michael and Judge Greer, just why won't you permit an MRI to be done on Terri?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 2005
Statement of the Catholic Medical Association:
Regarding the provision of artificial nutrition and hydration in the case of Mrs. Terri Schindler-Schiavo

The mission of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA) is to uphold the truth of the Catholic Faith in the science and practice of medicine. In July 2003, the CMA published a statement regarding the provision of artificial nutrition and hydration in the case of Mrs. Terri Schindler-Schiavo. The circumstances surrounding this case have been widely publicized. In 2003, after summarizing the ethical directives found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care, we concluded that based upon the current teaching of the Church the withdrawal of nutrition and hydration could not be justified. Two subsequent events compel us to update our former statement to uphold the truth and defend the life of Mrs. Schindler-Schiavo.

In March 2004, Pope John Paul II addressed an international congress of health care professionals convened in Rome to discuss the scientific advances and ethical dilemmas in the vegetative state. In the statement by the Vicar of Christ, “Life Sustaining Treatments and Vegetative State,” he declares clearly and unequivocally that “the sick person in a vegetative state still has the right to basic health care…the administration of water and food, even when provided by artificial means, always represents a natural means of preserving life, not a medical act…Its use furthermore, should be considered in principle, ordinary and proportionate, and as such morally obligatory…Death by starvation or dehydration is, in fact, the only possible outcome as a result of their withdrawal. In this sense it ends up becoming, if done knowingly and willingly, true and proper euthanasia by omission.” This papal statement makes it absolutely clear that the withdrawal of food and water from Mrs. Schindler-Schiavo constitutes euthanasia, a gravely immoral act. We would add furthermore, that it represents a violation of her constitutionally protected right to life and a violation of her religious freedom as a Catholic.

Second, recently published data in the journal Neurology indicates that magnetic resonance imaging can be a very powerful tool in the evaluation of “awareness” in patients with severe neurological injury. The findings were so remarkable Dr. Joy Hirsch, director of the Functional MRI Research Center at Columbia University Medical School and an author of the study, said, “The most consequential thing about this is that we have opened a door, we have found an objective voice for these patients, which tells us they have some cognitive ability in a way they cannot tell us themselves. The patients are more human than we imagined in the past, and it is unconscionable not to aggressively pursue research efforts to evaluate them and develop therapeutic techniques.”

These two events, the definitive papal statement and the scientific evidence of new diagnostic techniques required to adequately assess the severely brain injured patient, support our former conclusion in July 2003. There is no rational justification, moral or medical, to withdraw food and water from Mrs. Terri Schindler-Schiavo.

Finally, we recognize that many will not agree with our conclusion. In a country that legally justifies the destruction of innocent human life in its most vulnerable stage of development, within the womb of the mother, it will come as no surprise that our courts have failed to defend her right to life. The darkness of death shrouds the conscience of America. Therefore, we conclude this statement by making a sincere appeal to all who do agree with us. Please join us in prayer on behalf of Terri, her family and our country; that by the Grace of Almighty God some intervention will save her life and save us from the inevitable consequences if she were euthanized.

Steve Fossett's diet

Watching Steve Fossett bring in his Global Flyer today, setting a world record for non-stop flight around the world. The only thing he could fit in to take to eat was...liquid protein drink.

Strikes me as funny that HE can use this to 'eat', but those on tube feedings are being kept alive 'artificially' ???

Formula is used all the time by infants, but others cannot use this in order to provide a LIVING BODY with nutrients?

Makes NO sense to me... rather like the baby in the womb is a baby when wanted, but a fetus when not wanted....

Judge wants punishment for Catholic pharmacist

I am ashamed for my state. I commend the pharmacist, and warn everyone that this will happen MUCH more often in the future...

Judge wants punishment for Catholic pharmacist

Madison, Wisconsin, Mar. 02 (CWNews.com) -

A Wisconsin judge has recommended a Catholic pharmacist be ordered to attend ethics classes because he refused to fill a prescription for contraceptives, saying he violated the code of ethics.
Administrative Law Judge Colleen Baird ordered the punishment for Neil Noesen of St. Paul, Minnesota, who in July 2002 refused to dispense the contraceptive or transfer the prescription to another pharmacy because he said his Catholic faith prevented him from participating the transaction.
Noesen's attorney, Krystal Williams-Oby, said Baird went beyond Wisconsin law, which does not address the issue, in her decision. Neither does the Pharmacy Examining Board address it, she said. "What the state is doing is holding my client to a standard that does not exist." Williams-Oby said the finding violates the rights of her client and of other pharmacists who have a moral objection.
Baird said state rules prohibit pharmacists from engaging in practices that could be a "danger to the health, welfare, or safety of a patient or public." Baird found Noesen put the woman at risk of an unwanted pregnancy through his actions, which by the judge's implication was a danger to her.
Baird's recommendation will be sent to the Pharmacy Examining Board, which will rule on it in April.

Good article to read.......Berlin's Retort

Give Me Your Poor, Your Tired, But Not Your Disabled!
America’s Final Solution Looms With Schiavo Case
The Nazis called it Die Endgültige Lösung.
We know it as The Final Solution.
The Nazi government extinguished the life of approximately 275,000 disabled children and adults. It was their quest to purify the human race.
Today, in Florida, the court and all its jesters are attempting to enact a precedence of the American version of The Final Solution. Those jesters, and I’m being extremely tolerant with that name, would have the American population believe those like Terri want to be killed. They want us to believe their new, improved, revised final solution is not to purify the human race, but simply stated want to lessen the burden of caring for those like Terri, be it financial, medical, or a mental burden on the state or family. Remember, they know better than you or your family.

Divorce Exception

Most people who know me or have read my posts on many yahoo websites (marlyn_25) over the years KNOW that I oppose no fault unilateral forced divorce.

But there are always exceptions even in our Catholic Faith about this, and one case that is blatantly in that category is the 'marriage' of Terri Schiavo, where her very life is in danger from the man who promised to love honor and cherish her til death parted them.

Those vows did not mean til he found a legal way to murder/kill her.

Those vows did not mean until one of them became brain-damaged and would require nursing help for the rest of her days.

Those vows did not mean that when he 'became lonely' or... whatever word you may want to insert, that he could then begin to 'date', or 'sleep with' another woman.

Those vows were taken for good times AND in bad, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse... until God called one of them Home.

Michael Schiavo has broken his vows by having affairs, the last has been going on for ten years and producing two children...and she is called by him, his fiancee.

Sorry, no one married is EVER entitled to a fiancee. Ever.

This case, where her very life is at stake is covered in the Catechism and in Canon Law as being one reason that divorce MAY take place, when one's very life is in danger.

But even there, the 'state' has this covered....by not allowing anyone to petition for divorce FOR her other than her guardian. Michael Schiavo is her guardian. There is no protection for Terri any place on this earth.

If Terri were not where Terri is... and HE wanted a divorce...he would have NO problem using unilateral no-fault divorce to FORCE her to become a divorced woman... so why not now? He certainly cannot maintain his faithfulness as proof of his 'caring' for Terri.

I would respect him (just a tad) if he were honest and said he just wants her dead.

Just wondering..........

I am convinced that Terri hears and understands a lot more than some give her credit for.

Has any one EVER told her what is being done and asked HER what she wants? I just wonder if she would have any kind of reaction that could/would show that she does NOT want to die...

Media Outlets Seek Access to DCF Filing Regarding Teri Schiavo

Media Outlets Seek Access to DCF Filing Regarding Teri Schiavo
(New Hearing Wednesday)

March 1, 2005CLEARWATER, Fla.-

A judge has set a hearing for Wednesday to determine whether to make public a court document in which the Department of Children & Families is seeking last-minute intervention in the case of brain-damaged Terri Schiavo.

Circuit Judge George Greer set the hearing after the company that owns the Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV sued to get access to the DCF petition. Lawyers say the state social service agency wants to investigate possible abuse of the severely brain-damaged woman by her husband who is seeking to remove the feeding tube keeping her alive.

The Tribune and television station argued that usual privacy concerns don't apply because of the extensive litigation and media coverage of the plight of the woman's parents to keep her alive. They also say the public has a right to scrutinize the DCF's actions in the Schiavo case.

"The extraordinary public interest in this proceeding is heightened by the executive branch's continuing efforts to inject itself into this controversy," the filing said.

Gov. Jeb Bush has said he would do anything he could legally to help save Terri Schiavo's life. In 2003 he pushed a law through the Legislature authorizing him to restore her feedings six days after the court ordered them stopped. The law subsequently was ruled unconstitutional.

Greer ordered last week that the feeding tube will be removed again March 18, triggering another flurry of legal filings by attorneys for her parents who are trying to block it.

Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael, contends she would not want to be kept alive artificially and won court permission to remove her feeding tube. Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, doubt she had any such wishes and say she could improve with therapy.

The Schindlers also dispute their daughter is in a persistent vegetative state as court-appointed doctors have determined.

Please email Amnesty International USA re Terri

Amnesty International USA: Privacy Policy

http://www.amnestyusa.org/contact/

Please send an email to Amnesty International on behalf of Terri Schindler-Schiavo and ask for their intervention in saving this woman from a death by torture. Pass this email to get the word out that it is apparent in the state of Florida that they do not value the life of disabled Americans. Time is running out for Terri Schindler-Schiavo as Judge Greer has set a deadline of March 18 to commence starving and dehydrating Terri by the request of her self-serving estranged husband.

Should Terri be tortured to death per the actions of Pinellas County Florida circuit court, this could set a presentence for euthanizing disabled American men, women and children....especially babies who are born with disabilities. As any human being has the will to live, no Earthly court has the right to decide an innocent persons quality of life, whatever the circumstances.

Thank you for reading this and please pass it along.
