It is time for the Church to face up to the crisis of spousal abandonment - Hillary Towers

It is time for the Church to face up to the crisis of spousal abandonment :: Catholic News Agency (CNA)

I totally agree with her. The Church lost the battle long ago when no fault divorce was not fought against, and has not been spoken of as the evil it is. Instead, 'compassion' set in, and 'easy annulments' were the results. It is to the point where people EXPECT a decree of Null when they 'apply' for one. Read Msgr Cormac Burke's site, anything by Fr Clarence Hettinger and Cardinal Egan on the subject, as well as any of the Rotal admonitions by both JPII and Benedict XVI on the subject of too many 'annulments'.... how does anyone think that the battle of SSM will ever be won IF this is not addressed in TRUTH, from the top down???

God bless!

Man Up - Interview - Bill Bennett

Sounds like a very good book! If it is anything like his book of virtues, it would be worth getting, or even gifting to teens and young men.

Man Up
A how-to guide.

Former Education Secretary William J. Bennett, author of the famously bestselling The Book of Virtues, who gets up early as a morning-radio-show host, has a new book, The Book of Man: Readings on the Path to Manhood.

It’s another collection of the classics — of prayers and words we may take for granted, or which may be new to some of the younger among us. This anthology will give anyone a whole new appreciation for even the most familiar poems and prayers.

Secretary Bennett takes questions from National Review Online’s Kathryn Jean Lopez on men, women, and what can be done in our culture and in our lives to put men back on the path to manhood.

Husband: Priest fathered wife's baby, diocese covered up affair - KCTV 5

This is absolutely disgusting. ANY person in a counseling position of any sort is ABUSING anyone by engaging in any kind of sexual relations with that person, and that includes a priest/ parishioner. HE KNEW SHE WAS MARRIED!!! SHE KNEW SHE WAS MARRIED!! Any health care provider knows this, and every priest should, as well!

AND, what a DAY to 'confess' to your spouse that you CHEATED ON HIM, and carried ANOTHER MAN's CHILD, letting him think that child was HIS~~~ ON THE CHILD'S BIRTHDAY????!!!!!

And THEN... THIS???? WHO WAS THAT BISHOP???

Matt now works at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Independence. He also helps Catholics seeking divorce determine whether they can get their marriages annulled by the church, according to SNAP.
HOW DARE they allow a man who has helped to violate MARITAL VOWS determine if someone 'can get' a Declaration of NULLITY???? HOW DARE THEY EVEN ALLOW THIS MAN TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH EVER AGAIN COUNSELING ANY MARRIAGE RELATIONSHIP?? This is why NO ONE in the Church should EVER just see half of a ONE FLESH union! (ALL MARRIAGES ARE TO BE PRESUMED VALID... ALL MARRIAGES between two Baptized persons are SACRAMENTAL!! )

This is outrageous... absolutely outrageous.

Lord, have MERCY!! Spare us, Oh, Lord!

Husband: Priest fathered wife's baby, diocese covered up affair - KCTV 5

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

An area man is suing the area Catholic Diocese, alleging that the Catholic Church covered up sexual misconduct between a priest and the man's wife.

The unidentified man claims Father Joseph Matt fathered a child with his wife. The man says Matt now works in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph's headquarters helping guide parishioners who face marital difficulties.

The Survivor's Network of Those Abused by Priests announced the lawsuit in a news conference Monday afternoon. The man, his two sons, and his daughter are suing Matt and the diocese in Cass County Circuit Court. This includes the son fathered by the priest.

The man says he learned last year on his son's birthday that the son he had raised was actually fathered by the priest about five years earlier. The man says top church officials committed fraud and kept silent about the sexual misconduct.

"For seven years, the woman's husband raised the child as his own," said SNAP's Barbara Dorris. "It can't be consensual. This would like a therapist who had sex with his patient. It would be unlawful, which is true for priests."

The man says the long affair and ensuing lies tore his family apart. He and his wife are now getting a divorce. The affair began while the woman was receiving counseling after losing her job with the church, according to the husband.

In a statement, the diocese says the church first learned about the affair a year ago from the husband. The church says Matt acknowledged the affair and the resulting paternity test determining that he was the boy's father.

Matt now works at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Independence. He also helps Catholics seeking divorce determine whether they can get their marriages annulled by the church, according to SNAP.

The diocese says Bishop Robert Finn removed Matt from his assignment at St. Joseph in October 2010. Finn apologized to the husband in November 2010 and offered to pay for the family to receive counseling, according to the diocese.

Finn and Matt in February came "to an agreement" about Matt returning to the Independence ministry and continuing to serve on the Diocese's Tribunal, a church court.
