Now... CNN Rejects Ad

Interesting letter. Note CNN's reason for refusing to air this ad:

Dear CatholicVote.org Member,

We have been quieter than usual the past two weeks for good reason. Following NBC's refusal to air our ad during the Super Bowl, we received some great feedback from our members on what we should do next. The consensus was that our latest ad should be broadcast following President Obama's first State of the Union Address -- scheduled for next Tuesday.

So we contacted CNN, thinking their audience contains precisely the type of people we want to reach. Further, given CNN's track record of running advocacy ads, we were confident we would succeed. Not so.

For the past two weeks, we have been pushing and prodding them for an answer. And late this week we finally got a response: No way.

A representative from CNN wrote: "Thank you for your patience. We have decided to pass on this creative. CNN doesn't accept advocacy ads that portray personal decisions in a manner that suggests a position in favor of the advocacy message, without having permission of the persons involved."

This is absurd. Our ad does not suggest that Barack Obama is pro-life. Instead, our ad presents nothing but facts. President Obama, like every human being, began as an unborn child. Because he was born, he was able to become the President of the United States.

CNN and others simply don't like the obvious conclusion of our ad - there was no 'choice' for abortion back in 1961. Thankfully, we had laws then safeguarding unborn children -- laws that protected the life of a future president who tragically is unwilling to fight for those same protections today.

But wait. Is this fair?

The standard CNN used to reject our ad did not prevent the network from airing a 2005 ad sponsored by the pro-abortion group NARAL that suggested that then Judge John Roberts supported violence against abortion clinics.

FactCheck.org described the NARAL ad this way: "An abortion-rights group is running an attack ad accusing Supreme Court nominee John Roberts of filing legal papers 'supporting . . . a convicted clinic bomber' and of having an ideology that 'leads him to excuse violence against other Americans' It shows images of a bombed clinic in Birmingham, Alabama. The ad is false.'"

Several prominent pro-abortion supporters condemned the ad, including President Clinton's Solicitor General Walter Dellinger. The commercial, which attributed views to John Roberts that were not his, was ultimately pulled from the air not by CNN, but by NARAL.

At the time CNN issued a statement saying: "CNN accepts advocacy advertising from responsible groups from across the political spectrum who wish to express their views and their opinions about issues of public importance."

CNN is willing to run ads insinuating that a federal judge supports violent criminal activity, but it won't allow an ad celebrating the potential of all human life, including Barack Obama? Not to mention, we are fairly sure NARAL didn't get permission from John Roberts to run their ad.

If you want to express your concerns, please do so firmly, but charitably. You can write CNN President Jonathan Klein at jonathan.klein@cnn.com

So what now?

We aren't going to sit back and complain. We are still looking at several additional options to air the ad. We are also working on our next ad, and have set our sights high once again.

If you liked what we have done so far, we are confident you will be excited about what is coming next.

P.S. I discussed the decision by CNN to reject our recent ad with an executive of a prominent commercial ad agency. He said bluntly: "Their excuse is a textbook answer for a network that does not want to run your ad."

Of course, all is not lost. CNN's refusal will only create more attention for our ad, which has been widely discussed even among abortion groups like NARAL and nationally-syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman. The ad remains a viral hit on the Internet with over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

We have successfully provoked a national conversation about the gift of every human life -- which is why we created the ad to begin with.

Rest assured, we are working hard on the next phase of this campaign. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Have a wonderfully blessed and happy Birthday, Megan!

Happy Birthday to my daughter, Megan!

I won't tell your age, since you are four years older than your little brother.

I always loved the story of Little Women, and really liked the name "Meg" (one of the characters), so when we were naming you, I wanted that name. I knew my family would change Margaret into Maggie or Peggy, or even Margie, but not 'Meg'.

So I found Megan, and thought PERFECT!

So Mom turned you into MeGEE, as we called you Meggie when you were little. But, somewhere along the line, in the early days of school, my little 'formal' daughter announced to me one day that her name was NOT Meg, it was MEGAN.....

Smile. Megan it is (usually, but mothers have certain privileges, one of which is 'forgetting'. So, I still very often call you my favorite name from Little Women... Meg).

I was looking to find your patron Saint, and LOOK what I found! St Margaret Ward has an interesting story, and was a martyr for the Faith.

And of course, your main one is Mary herself, as I promised that if the baby we were waiting for was another girl, that child would have her name.

Name Gender Origin Meaning Similiar Names
Megan female Greek, Gaelic, Welsh mighty, strong, able, pearl Meggy, Meghan, Meagan, Megann, Meggy, Meggie, Meg, Megs

Have a wonderfully happy day, Megan Mary! And many more!

God bless you!

Love,

Mom

Til death do us part....

This man is living out what we married people have VOWED to do, until natural death takes one of us.

May God reward him in this lifetime, as well as the next. At his death, may he hear the words
"Well done, Good and Faithful Servant!"

It is our vocation to aid our spouse to HEAVEN and to SALVATION, not 'to be happy, to be fulfilled'... etc. If, while married we attain happiness and fulfilment, it is an added bonus. But our responsibility is to our spouse.

God bless!

The groom says:I (...), take you (...) to be my wife.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

The bride says:I (...), take you (...) to be my husband.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

"So when you make a promise (or a VOW) to God,
don't delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools.
Keep all

the promises you make to him.
It is better to say nothing than to promise

something that you don't follow through on.
In such cases, your mouth is making
you sin.
And don't defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger
that the

promise you made was a mistake.
That would make God angry, and he might wipe
out everything you have achieved."

Pelosi Spin on Meeting With Pope Dramatically Different From Vatican Statement

If anyone is surprised by her released statement, I know of a bridge you can purchase for cheap...it is exactly what I thought it would be.. 'smile smile... nice visit.. I got to tell him a thing or two..smile... it was very enjoyable...smile .. smile...'

Personally, I'd like to have been a fly on the wall as the Pope spoke to her, but even MORE -- I would LOVE to have been in the place where she was alone with her husband after they left, when she no longer had to smile and play nice. I betshe was NOT at all happy when she left his office, and I will also bet that her hubby got an earful,

God bless!

Pelosi Spin on Meeting With Pope Dramatically Different From Vatican Statement

Pope Rebukes Pelosi, Tells Her Catholic Legislators Obligated to Protect Life: No Pelosi/Pope photos permitted

By John-Henry Westen

VATICAN CITY, February 18, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Vatican Press Office released a note this morning detailing part of the conversation which Pope Benedict XVI had with Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Pelosi also released a statement on the meeting, which ignored the one and only crucial issue mentioned in the Vatican note. While Pelosi presented the meeting as a fully positive encounter, the Vatican indicated the Pope reminded her of the requirement of Catholic politicians to defend life. Also, contrary to normal protocols for such meetings with dignitaries, no photos of Pelosi with the Pope have been released.

The Vatican note reads: "His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

Vatican insiders stressed to LifeSiteNews.com that such releases are always phrased in diplomatic language and thus the correction of the Speaker who describes herself as a "faithful Catholic," despite her abortion advocacy, should be taken as a firm rebuke.

LifeSiteNews.com also learned that concerns about Pelosi were presented to Vatican officials a day prior to the meeting.

Such encounters with the Pope are treasured by politicians for the photo opportunity they provide. Pelosi, however, was not afforded that customary photo by the Vatican. The Associated Press reports that "the Vatican said it was not issuing a photo of the meeting -- as it usually does when the pope meets world leaders -- saying the encounter was private."

For her part, Pelosi issued a press release on the 15-minute meeting with the Pope. "It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today," she said. "In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel."

The release from the Vatican, however, made no mention of the comments that Pelosi stressed in her release.

Pelosi's positive spin on the meeting is not being swallowed even by left-leaning Papal watchers. Vatican correspondent John Allen, who writes for the National Catholic Reporter, noted that "routine Vatican declarations after diplomatic meetings also generally sum up the range of issues discussed rather than concentrating on a particular point. In that sense, the statement can only be read as a rejection of Pelosi's statements last summer, and, in general, of her argument that it's acceptable for Catholics in public life to take a pro-choice position."

Allen also noted that "by issuing an unusual public statement after the session with Pelosi -- which insisted that all Catholics, including legislators, are obliged to work for the defense of human life from conception to natural death -- the pope also made clear there will no let-up in the pressure on pro-choice Catholic politicians to change their ways."

Many pro-life organizations from the US and Canada expressed their serious concerns to the Holy See that Mrs. Pelosi was going to be received by the Holy Father. Some of these organizations sent to different Vatican authorities comprehensive memoranda in which they showed in a detailed and precise way the anti-life statements and the pro-death voting record of Mrs. Pelosi.

Catholic sources in Rome, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were "very much encouraged by this statement," saying that it shows that the "Holy Father is ready to stand up with courage to politicians that claim they are Catholics but their voting record denies those hypocritical assertions."

Fwd: WRTL Exposes Motivation for Madison Late-Term Abortion Venture

Life - Wisconsin Right To Life - Alert

WRTL Executive Director Exposes the Motivation and Internal Politics
Surrounding UW Madison Late-Term Abortion Venture
in Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

An email exchange that went on for months between abortionist Caryn Dutton of Madison, abortionist Fredrik Broekhuizen of Milwaukee, and officials of UW Hospital in Madison are incredibly revealing about the motivation and internal politics surrounding the venture to perform late-term abortions at the Madison Surgery Center.

In an opinion piece appearing in today's Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, Wisconsin Right to Life Executive Director Barbara reveals that the venture was all about money and the politics of trying to make late-term abortions "mainstream" by forcing them into a surgery center where people go for routine outpatient procedures.

The text of Barbara's Journal/Sentinel article, which is a must read, can be found below and by going to jsonline.com and clicking on "Opinion"

MADISON LATE-TERM ABORTION PROGRAM POLITICALLY AND FINANCIALLY MOTIVATED

by Barbara L. Lyons, Executive Director
Wisconsin Right to Life

Imagine that you are a patient needing routine surgery at an outpatient facility. At the Madison Surgery Center, you receive treatment to enhance your health, while in the next room or down the hall a fully formed 19-22 week unborn baby is being dismembered, experiencing significant pain from the abortion procedure. Your treatment payment is pooled with the abortion money, making you indirectly complicit in the horrendous practice.

The UW Hospital and Clinics, Meriter Hospital and the Madison Surgery Center recently approved such a venture. The second trimester abortion program was discussed for months, shrouded in secrecy. Since becoming public knowledge, information from facilities' officials has been incredibly inconsistent and filled with public relations puffery.

In a January 7, 2009 Wisconsin State Journal article , UW Hospital spokesperson Lisa Brunette indicated that tissue from the aborted babies could be used by UW-Madison researchers but only after review by a faculty committee. Now, hospital officials have reversed course. Even if one believes the reversal, there is nothing to prevent future research use of aborted babies.

A January 30 Associated Press story revealed that a detailed power point presentation prepared by Caryn Dutton (the abortionist) and Laurel Rice (chair of the UW OB-GYN Department) listed "increased departmental revenue" at the top of the "benefits" slide for the program. Brunette adroitly backtracked, claiming that particular slide was never used in Wisconsin.

E-mails between Dutton, Rice and other officials at UW and Meriter document their belief that the abortions should be moved to the Madison Surgery Center because permission was needed from Planned Parenthood's (PP) national organization for Dutton to perform second trimester abortions beyond 19 weeks at PP's freestanding Madison abortion clinic. Dutton stated in a November 20, 2008 email to Fredrik Broekhuizen, PP's Milwaukee abortionist, that "...and most importantly the support/approvals needed through PPFA at a time when the confidence in our ab[ortion] service provision was very LOW..." In other words, Dutton's own abortion practice up to 19 weeks is so sleazy that even national PP doesn't have confidence to expand it to 22.

The political motivation was deftly explained in a November 22, 2008 email from Broekhuizen to Dutton where he said "It is my very strong feeling that we need to safeguard hospital base abortion practices ..." "I really think that the Madison physician community should step up to the plate as advocates..." and that "If Madisonians consider themselves so progressive and that's how they often talk, why can't they do this walk?"

While stressing publicly that these abortions are "needed" for medical reasons, the email correspondence indicates that 75% of late-term abortions are for elective reasons.

There is little concern in internal communications about staff at the Madison Surgery Center, from receptionists to nurses to anesthesiologists. Dutton states in her November 22 email that "...other specialties and departments are terrified of having abortion happening in their 'space.'"

Proponents soothingly reassure that "only" 125-130 dismemberment abortions will be performed annually at the Madison Surgery Center. If medical people dismembered 125-130 of any other member of the human family, they would rightly be prosecuted.

Whether promoting late-term abortions, partial-birth abortions or any abortions, the rhetoric from abortion proponents is same-old, same-old -- it's a needed "service." In his November 22 email, Broekhuizen laments that "out patient free standing clinic based care after 20-24 weeks for medically indicated terminations is far from optimal." Why stop at 24 weeks when abortions are legal for the full nine months of pregnancy?

We live in a morally sick society when our supposedly "finest" medical professionals promote, rationalize and carry out the destruction of our young. What a disservice we do to women when the solution we offer is to destroy their children.

North Dakota House Gives Fertilized Eggs Human Status

WOW... Pray for the ND Senate! HT to Irish Eyes!

God bless!

North Dakota House Gives Fertilized Eggs Human Status

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/18/north-dakota-house-gives...

BISMARCK, N.D. -- A measure approved by the North Dakota House gives a fertilized human egg the legal rights of a human being, a step that would essentially ban abortion in the state.

The bill is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that extended abortion rights nationwide, supporters of the legislation said.

Representatives voted 51-41 to approve the measure Tuesday. It now moves to the North Dakota Senate for its review.

The bill declares that "any organism with the genome of homo sapiens" is a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws.

The measure's sponsor, Rep. Dan Ruby, R-Minot, said the legislation did not automatically ban abortion. Ruby has introduced bills in previous sessions of the Legislature to prohibit abortion in North Dakota.

"This language is not as aggressive as the direct ban legislation that I've proposed in the past," Ruby said during House floor debate on Tuesday. "This is very simply defining when life begins, and giving that life some protections under our Constitution — the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Critics of the measure say it will cost millions of dollars to defend. Ruby said the state has been willing to go to bat for other principles that were less important.

In Oklahoma, meanwhile, a state House committee Tuesday approved legislation that would prohibit physicians from performing abortions solely on account of the gender of a woman's fetus, even though the measure's author said there is no evidence the practice has ever occurred in the state.

The legislation passed 20-2 by the House Public Health Committee. The bill now goes to the full House for consideration.

The author of the bill, Rep. Dan Sullivan, R-Tulsa, said it is designed to stop couples from using the gender of a fetus as a reason to get an abortion. Sullivan said a doctor would be prohibited from performing an abortion if the mother specifically said the fetus' sex was the reason.

However, he said there is no evidence the practice has occurred in Oklahoma. "I haven't received any definite information that proves it," Sullivan said.

Pope Benedict strongly rebukes Pelosi over abortion

HT to Tim B! I agree with him, also, in that I cannot wait to hear her spin on this....

God bless Benedict XVI!

Pope Benedict strongly rebukes Pelosi over abortion

.- House speaker Nancy Pelosi's photo-op with Pope Benedict XVI turned sour when the Pontiff used the 15-minute meeting to reaffirm the teachings of the Catholic Church on the right to life and the duty to protect the unborn.

No photo of Nancy Pelosi and the Pope will be forthcoming, since the meeting was closed to reporters and photographers. The two met in a small room in the Vatican just after the Pope's weekly public audience.

Immediately after the meeting, the Holy See's press office released a statement saying, "following the general audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage."

"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in co-operation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

A significant number of Catholic and pro-life organizations expressed concern over how Pelosi would use the meeting with Pope Benedict to further her position that it is possible to be Catholic and pro-abortion.

Last August, Pelosi was rebuked by several U.S. bishops for attempting to theologically justify her position during an interview with "Meet the Press."

On Tuesday, Jon O'Brien, president of "Catholics for Choice," a small, well-funded organization that provides theological arguments to pro-abortion Catholic politicians, told The Hill that today's visit between the Speaker and Pope Benedict would be an opportunity to highlight that one can be pro-choice and Catholic, and that there are much bigger issues out there to discuss, such as the fate of the poor in the global economic downturn.

"That would be a real conversation about choice, instead of this micro-obsession with abortion," O'Brien said.

Nevertheless, according to the Holy See's statement, the Pope spent the whole 15 minute conversation talking with Pelosi about the right to life and the need to defend the unborn.

A spokesman for Pelosi, who is now headed to Southern Italy as part of her Italian tour, said she would issue a statement later in the day regarding her meeting with the Pope.

27 yrs ago... Happy Birthday to My Son

Happy Birthday, Son!

27 years ago tonight, you were in the process of being born, right on time, on your 'due date'.

When we were searching for a name for you, it was not an easy thing to do, as your Dad did not like many that I did, and I didn't like some he chose. But we did finally agree on one, and it ended up being the perfect name.

Irish, definitely. "Gentle. Noble One." That was the meaning given in the baby name book we used for your first and middle names. The added plus for me was that both names were Saints' Names.

I am very proud of the man you have become.

Love,
Mom

St. Kevin

Feastday: June 3

Known in Ireland as Coemgen as well as Kevin, according to tradition he was born at the Fort of the White Fountain in Leinster, Ireland, of royal descent. He was baptized by St. Cronan and educated by St. Petroc. He was ordained, and became a hermit at the Valley of the Two Lakes in Glendalough. After seven years there, he was persuaded to give up his solitary life. He went to Disert-Coemgen, where he founded a monastery for the disciples he attracted, and later moved to Glendalough. He made a pilgrimage to Rome, bringing back many relics for his permanent foundation at Glendalough. He was a friend of St. Kieran of Clonmacnois, and was entrusted with the raising of the son of King Colman of Ui Faelain, by the king. Many extravagant miracles were attributed to Kevin, and he was reputed to be 120 years old at his death. His feast day is June 3rd.

Saint Patrick
Feastday: March 17
Patron of Ireland
b. 387 d.461

It was too long for here, but you can read the first part, which tells of his birth, captivity, becoming a priest and return to Ireland at the website. It continues:

Patrick preached and converted all of Ireland for 40 years. He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions. After years of living in poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461.

He died at Saul, where he had built the first church.

Why a shamrock?

Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, and has been associated with him and the Irish since that time.

In His Footsteps:

Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission.

Links that Did not fit, but are important

My son's birthday 'card' from me is not in line with three links that showed up as I was reading his response to it. They just are not on topic.

HOWEVER, they are important. So I am posting them, and altering the time slightly, in order to KEEP my son's birthday on top, because it is his day.

God bless!

12-year-old speaks out on the issue of abortion

Compelling.

My own daughter, in 8th grade also impressed her teacher with her defense of life in debate. She was left to think about the "hard cases" for the next day's discussion, and was not sure how she felt about "rape and incest". She had nearly been convinced by her classmates' opposing views.

Adoption entered her final decision when I asked her one question.

"What if, in opening her records some day as an adult, she would learn that SHE was conceived as a result of rape or incest?" She paused, thought about it, and made her decision, saying "I never thought about that!"

The next day, she told her classmates that if her mother had felt the way that some were arguing, they would never have met HER. She proceeded to tell them that she is an adopted child. She told them she had no idea how she was conceived, but she did know that she was VERY glad that her mother had chosen LIFE.

Her teacher called me later to tell me how proud I would have been of Erin's defense, and how compelling her argument had been in the debate.

Erin and I have been able to meet and tell Karen "Thank you". Erin was able to return to her birthmother's arms in a huge hug at age 26. Karen has met and knows her grandchildren. So has Roger, her birthfather.

My second daughter has written to her birthmother, Liz. She has also sent pictures of her boys, and soon will once again update those pictures with one of the newest addition to our family, my sixth grandchild. Liz's third....

None of those six children would be here today had Karen and Liz opted not to choose LIFE for their daughters, and in my heart, I sometimes wonder if my son would be, either, for Erin and Megan together, every night for a long time, prayed for a 'baby in Mom's tummy'. The miracle of this is that during the 24 hour period of May 26, 1981, ONE child was conceived according to temp charting, and two other daughters were born to Karen and Liz....

An aborted child can never say "I forgive you!"
An aborted child can never return to hold a birth parent in his/her arms and say "I love you, Mom, Thanks for choosing LIFE!"

Horton said "A person's a person no matter how small!"

Choose Life. It is precious.

God bless!
