Catholic teachings pro-union bias

Fr Sirico ends his article:

A one-time member of a Wisconsin union, Stephen J. Haessler, tells me: “My previous experience with agency shop as a former member of a WEAC (Wisconsin Education Association Council) local affiliate is instructive. I opposed my dues monies going to endorse pro-choice political candidates, but my opinions and preferences did not matter because dues were automatically deducted from my pay whether I joined the union or not. This was a violation of the principle of the freedom of association.”

Here’s the question Catholics need to ask themselves: Are the unions I support of the same type that are idealized in Catholic social teaching? Or have they changed to the point where they are unions in name only but actually just political machines for coercing workers and extracting money through the political process?

The bias toward unions in Catholic social teaching is rooted in a perception that unions fulfill certain moral conditions. When they fail to do so, the application of moral teaching can change. There is no a priori reason to back every union demand and no reason for Catholics to feel under any doctrinal obligation to do so.

Former abortionist now head of one of the largest pro-life medical practices in the U.S.

A few years ago, we were praying for the recovery of this MD, as he was very ill, and things did not look good. Praise the Lord, he recovered, and has helped many more women.

May he continue to serve the Lord and His Mother for many more years!

Putting Spine into Governing

For those following what is happening in Wisconsin....

By Ruben Navarrette

SAN DIEGO -- Who put the hot sauce in the Republican governors' oatmeal? And where do we get more of it?

In Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker is winning fans and making waves -- as good leaders tend to do -- by standing up to public-employee unions and forcing voters to confront unpleasant realities. They include the fact that the Badger State can't close a $3.6 billion budget shortfall. Rather than ignore the problem, Walker actually wants to fix it by making state workers pay more for benefits and eliminating most collective bargaining power of public-employee unions.

Newspaper Blackout of Dr. Nathanson Funeral

From the article:

When a newspaper styles itself, “The Newspaper of Record,” and boasts, “All the News That’s Fit to Print,” people develop a certain set of expectations. So when the last founding member of NARAL is buried, and neither the paper of record, nor the two tabloid dailies of New York City print a story on the funeral, that is itself news.

Had he stayed true to the cause, no doubt Dr. Bernard Nathanson would have Laid in State in City Hall, been eulogized by a dewy-eyed City Council Speaker, and had Bill 371 officially named after the lion who ate our young.

But the ink on Roe v Wade wasn’t quite dry when Nathanson betrayed the cause. He showed himself to be a thoughtful man who was motivated by truth. And when the arrival of ultrasonography created a window into the womb, this Jewish atheist saw humanity under assault and cried foul. For this, his passing received grudging and perfunctory mention in the obits, and not one drop of ink more.

Thus it was that Dr. Nathanson’s funeral was not deemed worthy of mention, a funeral held in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and concelebrated by the President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Timothy Dolan. Love him or hate him, Bernard Nathanson was a very consequential man in human history, and helped birth the institution that has prevented the births of over 53 million Americans.

Pakistan: Cabinet minister who defended Christians is assassinated

From the article:

Three weeks before his assassination, Bhatti had predicted that his reappointment as cabinet minister would “create some protests and resentment by many Islamic extremists. But my struggle will continue, despite the difficulties and threats that I have received. My only aim is to defend fundamental rights, religious freedom and the life of Christians and other religious minorities. I am prepared for any sacrifice for this mission, which I carry out with the spirit of a servant of God.”

DA may seek death penalty for abortion doc

Two verses or stories come to mind ...

One that it is far better for someone to have a millstone tied around the neck and be tossed into the sea than to harm ONE little one....

and Second that it is far better to lose one's life/riches.... etc.....than to lose his/her soul...

Tea Partiers chasing Wisconsin Democrats

I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I vote issues on the best candidate who stands up for what I believe ("must haves" -- or I will not even consider someone...and ONE of them is faithfulness, but that is only ONE area of concern for me). I am a Second Amendment believing Conservative (not quite Libertarian) who believes in pro-life, pro-family issues.

IF I were a Democrat, without even getting into the issue of the bill these 14 men are running from... I'd be upset that they are out there running all over the country instead of being MEN enough to come, debate and vote on the issue. I think this is disgusting, and I certainly HOPE that not ONE RED CENT is being paid for by our taxes, and they surely are NOT deserving to be PAID ONE PENNY for the time that they have not shown up for work!!!

If this were any ordinary 'Joe' worker who did not like something going on at his job, he would no longer HAVE a job the minute he tried to pull something like this. DISGUSTING. Not bravery.
