Police Probing Murder Of Upper East Side Holocaust Survivor/Missing Car "Felix B" plate

And then... there is this tragic story, which I learned of on the same day I read about Sister Agnes Walsh from the previous post on my blog. So VERY sad that he had survived the horrors in Nazi Germany, to be murdered in this way!

Brinkman was a close friend of famed ex-NYPD Det. Bo Dietl, who also spent years as a security consultant. Dietl called Brinkman, who was his son's Godfather, an "amazing man," and was the person who notified police officials that he hadn't heard from Brinkman in a while.

His car is missing, also, License Plate "Felix B"

Anna Arco uncovers the story of an Englishwoman declared Righteous Among the Nations

31 July 2009

Picture
Sister Agnes Walsh pretended to be Irish to avoid the attentions of the Nazis
Sister Agnes Walsh clucks and chatters like many a charming elderly maiden aunt, constantly urging her visitor to drink his tea. She tells story upon story from her past and wonders whether there will be enough space in the community's beautiful graveyard for her when the time comes.

The video in which she appears was made some time ago - the little religious with the big lively eyes and the plucky spirit has lain in that graveyard for a while now. But three years before her death in 1993 Sister Agnes was declared Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust remembrance authority in Israel, and her name was inscribed in its famous wall alongside others who helped save Jews during Nazi persecution. Hers is one of only 14 British names to be included there.

My search for Sister Agnes began in the newsroom of The Catholic Herald. Her name came up because we were working on an article about a special honour for those Britons who helped save Jews during the Holocaust. Sister Agnes was one of the few British Righteous Among the Nations but she had been left off the list for the honour by some oversight and the organisers said that they had too little information about her. She was an enigma for us as well. We knew only that she was based in the town of Cadouin in the Dordogne during the war, and that she was a Daughter of Charity. Nothing more.

May she rest in peace.

Former Philippines President Aquino Dead At 76 : NPR

Quote:
Marcos, elected president in 1965, declared martial law in 1972 to avoid term limits. He abolished the Congress and jailed Aquino's husband and thousands of opponents, journalists and activists without charges. Aquino became her husband's political stand-in, confidant, message carrier and spokeswoman.

Catholic and Enjoying It!: Divorce doesn't just murder families

Oh, how many years have I been telling people things like this!! I have TEARS reading this, because it speaks TRUTH!

And then, you add the HORRIBLE treatment given to VALIDITY of marriage from our US Tribunals, and the 'advice' to those who divorced (probably after cheating and marrying the one that they cheated with.. away from the Church... ) who now want to 'come back' -- "Live chastely as brother and sister until you get your annulment'.... implied guaranteed.

INSTEAD OF TELLING THEM TO DO AS THE LORD TEACHES!
1Cor 7:10-11 To the married I give charge, not I but the Lord, that the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, let her remain single or else be reconciled to her husband) -- and that the husband should not divorce his wife.

and WHY He says that (Malachi 2: 16 "For I hate divorce", says the LORD the God of Israel)....

Thank you, Mark Shea....

Where exactly is our St Thomas More and St John Fisher of today?

God have Mercy!

Divorce IS Murder.

President Barack Obama Awards Abortion Advocates With Medal of Freedom

This news really saddens me. All I can think of is Isaiah 5:20!

Douay-Rheims Bible
Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.

Another translation that really makes it clear, though I am not in anyway promoting the translation:

GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
How horrible it will be for those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn what is bitter into something sweet and what is sweet into something bitter.

Ohhh, this statement makes me think of Mary Ann Glendon, and the Laetare Medal from Notre Dame...and I wonder if Jack Kemp had any similar thoughts???

"Only one pro-life advocate made the list of medal winners. Obama gave an award to former congressman and NFL football player Jack Kemp, who took a very strong pro-life stance during his career."

No term limit for President Obama? by Ann Miller

I read this when the article first came out, and debated commenting on it. But it still "sticks in my craw", as they say. The historical ramifications of this type of action are, in many ways, almost frightening.

A resolution, H.J. Res. 5, was introduced into committee on January 6, 2009 which seeks to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, thus removing term limits for U.S. presidents.

Yes, you read it right. Democrat Representative Jose Serrano of New York wishes to allow unlimited terms for President Obama.

The presidential term limit was ratified as an amendment to the Constitution in 1951. However, our founding fathers adhered to the principle of a two-term limit on their own accord. The only president that served more than two terms was Democrat President Franklin Roosevelt, who served four non-consecutive terms.

Shall we go the way of the Venezuelan dictatorship? Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and President Obama both expressed opposition to the recent ousting of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, calling it a coup, rather than a legal overthrow of a president who was violating Honduran law and attempting to change their constitution to permit him to stay in office indefinitely. The action had gone through the proper legal process, was voted on by the Honduran Supreme Court and Congress, and had the support of the majority of the people.

According to an AP report, Obama stated, "We believe that the coup was not legal and that President Zelaya remains the democratically elected president there. It would be a terrible precedent if we start moving backwards into the era in which we are seeing military coups as a means of political transition rather than democratic elections," he added. "The region has made enormous progress over the last 20 years in establishing democratic traditions. ... We don't want to go back to a dark past."

What’s he afraid of? Why would Obama side with a tyrant rather than the people of Honduras? Could this “precedent” be a threat to his future plans?

The rest of this article is not very long, but she asks a very provocative series of questions above that is WELL worth thinking about!

'Debaptism' Takes Root with American Atheists

I know that this made news awhile ago already, but it is clearly an indicator of today's thinking.

From the article:

Atheist Gary Mueller recently mailed his de-baptism certificate to St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Concord, Calif., and asked to be dropped from its baptismal record. The church told him, in effect, that he was all wet.

"While we do not remove a name/person from a Baptism register, we can note alongside your name that `you have left the Roman Catholic Church,"' the Rev. Richard Mangini replied in an e-mail. "I hope that God surprises you one day and lets you know that He is quite well."

Where Have All the Habits Gone? :: CNA

Very interesting article!

In part:

Many if not most Catholics see the precipitous post-conciliar decline in the vitality of religious orders in general, and the abandonment of the habit in particular, and assume it is a matter of post hoc, ergo propter hoc; after this, therefore because of this. The Council Fathers, however, would most certainly disagree with such an assessment.

"The religious habit, an outward mark of consecration to God, should be simple and modest, poor and at the same becoming. In addition it must meet the requirements of health and be suited to the circumstances of time and place and to the needs of the ministry involved." (Perfectae Caritatis - Decree on the Adaptation and Renewal of Religious Life – 17)

Clearly, the Council Fathers never envisioned the religious habit going away; they simply made recommendations for its adaptation and continued use in the ever-changing circumstances of the modern world.

A good example of what they had in mind might be evidenced by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul whose large starched white cornettes, (remember the Flying Nun?) beautiful though they were, would be impractical in many of today’s high-tech hospital environments where patients are often surrounded by an elaborate web of IV lines, machinery and wires. The order has since adopted a simpler and far more workable headpiece.

Obama still cashing in on Bush's failings - Washington Times

From the article:

Democratic Party strategist Liz Chadderdon said the strategy of blaming the previous team has been effective.

'I think Bush-bashing has been alive and well since '07 and, since it keeps working, why not use it?" she said. "Voters have short memories. The administration needs to remind people that things were way worse over the last four years than in the last six months.' "

5 Freedoms You'd Lose in Health Care Reform by Shawn Tully

From the article:

Let's explore the five freedoms that Americans would lose under Obamacare:

1. Freedom to choose what's in your plan

2. Freedom to be rewarded for healthy living, or pay your real costs

3. Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage

4. Freedom to keep your existing plan

5. Freedom to choose your doctors

Personally, there are things even in this article that I do not agree with, as I don't think that ill people (for whatever reason) should be penalized for previous or on-going choices (alcoholism, for instance, affects MANY, but it also affects many legislators who often focus in on smokers, but seldom focus on alchohol or the effects it has on FAMILIES in their efforts to blame causes of health care costs--alcoholism/other drug abuse destroys families in ways that smoking NEVER does, NEVER has....).
