Philip Rivers: Role of discipline in chastity

From the news article:

In 1973, the Virgin Mary was said to have predicted a number of future events – including natural disasters even more serious than Friday's earthquake and tsunami – during three appearances to a Japanese religious sister, Sr. Agnes Sasagawa.

The purported appearances of the Virgin Mary in Japan were reviewed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in 1988. During his time as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith prior to his election as Pope Benedict XVI, he let stand the local bishop’s judgment that the apparitions and the messages were acceptable for the faithful.

The messages warned of chaos within the Church, and disasters which could afflict the world.

“If men do not repent and better themselves, God the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity,” Mary reportedly told Sr. Agnes. “If will be a punishment greater than the (biblical) flood, such as never seen before.”

“Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful,” she said. “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church, in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops.”

“Churches and altars will be sacked. The Church will be full of those who accept compromises, and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”

“Each day, recite the prayers of the Rosary,” she told Sr. Agnes. “With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests.”

Two years after the last message, the statue of the Virgin Mary in the chapel where the apparitions had occurred began to emit tears and drops of blood. The occurrence continued for more than six years.

Japan earthquake: Explosion at Fukushima nuclear plant

This is getting to be more and more frightening. Japan needs our prayers, AND help. Don't forget, also, that many Americans are stationed over there with their families, as well as teachers, employees of American companies, etc. Other nationalities, as well... some are among the missing.

Pope urges priests to preach on uncomfortable topics

YES!! I can think of one already (Mark 10:1-10, optional 11-16... PREACH ON THE FIRST PART, PASTORS, ESPECIALLY DISSOLUBILITY and ADULTERY)

NEVER fails that that topic is skipped over lightly (as in... 'oh, that first part is self-explanatory'... oh?? That is why we have so many NOT following His words to us?? That is why you might offend someone in the pews if you preach the TRUTH? )

Ok... keep ignoring the Holy Father .... and the Lord... "MY PEOPLE PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE!" Hosea 4:6

Priests must not preach “Christianity 'a la carte'” and should be willing to
approach even uncomfortable aspects of the Gospel, Pope Benedict said in a
meeting with priests this week.

The Ethics of Abortion

I think that I will be getting this book. Nat Hentoff also argues for Life based only on reason and natural law, etc. (A liberal Jewish atheist who is very pro-life). It will be on my 'wishlist'...

“The Ethics of Abortion”LMU philosopher's new book appeals
to reason alone to make pro-life case

By Benjamin Mann

Los Angeles (CNA) -- Dr. Christopher Kaczor's latest book argues against
abortion through reason alone, without reference to the author's Catholic faith.
But his inspiration in writing the book came from a canonized saint.

“Whenever St. Thomas Aquinas considered a question,” Kaczor told CNA,
“he made sure to state the objections to his point of view as strongly as he
could – so as to make his own answers even more compelling, even to those who
initially disagreed.”

Kaczor, a professor of philosophy at Loyola
Marymount University in Los Angeles, sought to do the same in his book, The
Ethics of Abortion: Women's Rights, Human Life, and the Question of Justice.

Many professional philosophers, he said, “are very clever, and have
spent a great deal of energy and time defending the moral permissibility of
abortion.”

Instead of appealing to religious authority or an instinctive
sense of outrage, Kaczor has sought to examine the arguments for abortion with
painstaking care – in order to point out flawed premises, logical
inconsistencies, or absurd results.

“I appeal only to reason, science,
and history in making a case that abortion is morally wrong,” he explained.
“I’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible. Over the course of about 10
years in writing this book, I tried to take into account every major argument
given in favor of abortion and then to counter it.”

Wisconsin Republicans Get Death Threats

Death threats over a disagreement in governmental things (which are currently going on in my State of Wisconsin) are absolutely uncalled for, from EITHER side.

Threatening to kill (bomb or otherwise) family members of Senators and Representatives is very disturbing, very sick, and I hope that whoever is sending these emails is caught BEFORE anything happens.

NOTHING is worth killing or threatening the lives of others.... NOTHING.

I happen to be of the persuasion that Unions have far too close of a relationship with a Party -- and when union dues are demanded and taken from members who do NOT desire to support that Party, it is infringing on their rights. MANY people are Independents, Republican, or other party affiliations and should not be forced to pay for ads and support of candidates that go against their personal choice as to whom would be best to be in any office, regardless of what that office is.

This situation in Wisconsin is tearing families apart. Not good. But THIS kind of activity is dangerous. It is sick. It is potentially a situation that could cause MUCH MORE loss of freedom in our nation.

Sarah Palin Slams Kathy Griffin: She Is a 50-Year-Old Bully

I agree. I cannot understand why Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, and Obama's daughters are 'off-limits', but the Bush's had to demand that same respect, and Palin's children are public fodder for the feeding frenzy of the Left.

Yes, Clinton DID speak up for Chelsea...

Sick, is what I think this is... when someone announces that it is a 16 yr old's turn to 'go down', simply because her mother ran for office of VP. Sad, that it is allowed by anyone.
