Jesuit superstar back at Ave Maria University

VERY strange happenings in Florida, to say the least. Good for Fr Fessio for taking the high road!

God bless!

Jesuit superstar back at Ave Maria University

Fr. Fessio asked by administration to return to school as

.- Following a whirlwind of activity in southern Florida, Fr. Joseph Fessio, S.J. seems to have resettled at Ave Maria University. According to several sources, the popular Jesuit priest will not return to his duties as Provost of the fledgling university, but will become a “designated theologian in residence.”

In a short statement released late Thursday the University announced that, “As a sign of our esteem for his great gifts and abilities, we have asked Father Fessio and he has agreed to continue a relationship with us.”

According to the Naples News, Fessio and Ave Maria have agreed that he will maintain a room on campus, assume some teaching responsibilities, and will make further plans for student study abroad program.

“I’m back and I’m glad,” Fessio said on Thursday afternoon.

The priest told the Naples News that as Ave Maria leadership, “began to focus more on what’s going to be best for the students and the university as a whole,” they decided that he should stay on-board in some capacity. Fessio said that Ave Maria University founder Tom Monaghan and President Nick Healy, who announced yesterday that he was fired for, “irreconcilable differences over administrative policies and practices,” realized that such differences did not mean he should be completely removed from responsibilities with the school. “If we disagreed on the administration process, then send me from administration,” the priest said, adding that he will not now be involved in “major policy decisions.”

Ave Maria has been adamant in stressing that they have no ideological differences with Fessio, who is known for his strong defense of and faithfulness to the Church’s theological and moral teachings. “We expressed yesterday that the separation of Father Fessio from the University’s administration had nothing to do with our shared commitment to our mission,” the press release added.

With the reappointment Fr. Fessio, who is also the founder of Ignatius Press and publisher of the Catholic World Report, expressed his continued support of the school. “This is an extraordinary undertaking of the university for the students,” Fessio told Florida’s The News-Press. “I was removed yesterday, but had so much admiration and respect for the role I played here. We call Catholic priests father for a reason. It really is a family.”

“I think it would have been better to have foreseen a little more clearly. It wouldn’t have been so much turmoil. But all’s well that ends well,” he said.

John and Elizabeth Edwards

UPDATE Feb 2010:

THIS WAS ALL A SHAM, and I have NO respect for any of those involved in the cover-up of an affair and out-of-wedlock child born to Edwards.

I really cannot vote for John Edwards due to much he stands for.

But I can admire the man, and his wife, for being an honorable couple.

I do NOT know their marital history, but based on what I have seen thus far, they are ONE, and they are honoring their wedding vows.

The first time that Elizabeth was diagnosed, he left politics and stayed with her through treatment. Now it is back, and it is in her bones, and they announced it together, just as they announced their plans. Not one word about the 'I" that we hear so much today. He spoke of what SHE wants, she spoke of what HE wants, and they spoke of what THEY want.

I have met many many sick women over my thirty five plus years in the health field, and many of them were left behind when that illness was a LONG TERM illness. Those who stuck by their wives were wonderful care-givers, and you could tell that they loved their wife. For some reason, more women stay in sickness of their mate.

Long ago, in Alcohol spousal treatment/counseling/classes, we were told that statistically, women stayed with their alcoholic spouses, while men did not. Women got sick quicker, and more often hid it at home. It always bothered me to hear this, but it was also something that I had already been seeing happening in the hospital and in my community.

John Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards, I will be praying for you both, for health and for growing love. (Sorry that I cannot vote for you, but you have my admiration in life).

Harry Truman said: "A man who would lie to his wife would lie to me, and a man who would break his marriage vows would break his oath of office."

I think that is very profound, very true, very thought-provoking, especially today, when so many pooh-pooh fidelity.

I also think that a man who would stand by his wife in illness deserves respect.

You can read between the lines about what I think of any man/woman who does NOT.

I (John), take you (Elizabeth) to be my wife.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

I (Elizabeth), take you (John) to be my husband.
I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

Fr Fessio Fired?

I am not sure WHAT is going on at Ave Maria University. First they move to Florida from Michigan, and leave behind a few disgruntled people... (thinking of one Canon Lawyer in particular)... and now they have fired Fr Fessio??

There is more at the website:

Ave Maria
12:26 pm

.- Confusion and unanswered questions continue to swirl around South Florida and the Church throughout the U.S. today as many wonder at the sudden firing of one of the nation’s best known Catholic figures. Fr. Joseph Fessio, S.J. was fired yesterday from his position as Provost of Ave Maria University, the promising new Catholic college, which has been finding its feet near Naples, Florida.

And at CWNews:
Father Fessio fired at Ave Maria

Perhaps, worrisome, perhaps not, but it IS confusing, to say the least!

Shocking Video on Shoebat.com showing Jihad in America.

Another message from Walid Shoebat Foundation that came earlier today.

God bless!

From: Shoebat.com
Friends

We have just put up on the web site a video which is a highlight of a two hour video of terrorists ploting in the USA in 1989 13 years before 9/11.

Sheikh Al Qaradawi who is regarded at a moderate in the UK in video is supporting and openly preaching Jihad. He Openly supports Abdullah Azzam the founder of Al Qaeda. This proves that there is no such thing as "moderate Islam" as one of the most "highly respected" imams in the West says he is against terrorism but in Arabic as a visitor to a Terror conference preaches Jihad. Time to stop fooling ourselves.

Please send the link to as many people as you can. Link is www.shoebat.com/movie.html. Wake Up America, wake

Walid is to speak at First Baptist Church Downey This weekend 3/24 and 3/25

On the HLI Website: Contraception the Love Killer

This came today. If anyone is interested, John's email address is at the bottom of his note.

From: John Mallon

Dear Catholic Bloggers & Others,

If you would, in your kindness, please post the following links:

Father Euteneuer has just graciously posted an article of mine on the HLI Website about the issues at stake in the Sean Hannity matter. He has asked me to spread it far and wide. You can view the article, Contraception the Love Killer, here:
http://www.hli.org/article_contraception_love_killer.html

Anyone who somehow missed any of the details of this now famous encounter can read up on it and see the video here:
http://www.hli.org/article_hannity_fr_tom_euteneuer.html

Even though it's late, I would also urge everyone to post and join in this Novena  for our nation's conversion from contraception to the truth of real love here:

Many Thanks,

Once again,
I am doing PR work for Human Life International and Fr. Tom Euteneuer sees the Catholic Blogosphere as an essential way of breaking pro-life news.

If someone passes this on to you and you wish to be included email me and I will add you,

John Mallon
 <johnmallon@cox.net> .
Please pass this on.

Also, I am surprised at the number of Catholic  Blogs that don't have an email to reach the Blogger, so if you know of anyone who wants to receive these notices have them contact me. If anyone has a comprehensive email list for St. Blog's I would be eternally grateful if you could share it with me.

Uncle Ray, May He Rest in Peace

I have been sick this past week, came home from work on Thursday early, and did not go in on Friday.

I have scooted through the emails in between naps.

Today, I checked other emails, and found one sent yesterday from my uncle Harold....

My Godmother is ONE with her husband of 67 years, and is now alone, as my Uncle Ray went Home on Friday.

I cannot imagine Aunt Jo living long without her partner, her love, the person she lived to take care of for all these years. He took good care of her--she took good care of him.

They had one child, Jim, and one grand child...Melanie, and as of six weeks ago, one Great grandchild.

I loved these two immensely, but they lived in Milwaukee, and I just did not get down there as often as I wanted to, nor as often as I should have. We always intend do, we never do... and so we also live with regrets.

I talked to Jim today, and to my Aunt Jo. She cried... naturally.

He would have been 99 on May 8th, she will be 90 in August.

She was an RN who never really 'had' to work, did a LOT of private-duty nursing with the 'really sick ones', and loved it. She also kept up on EVERYTHING, survived double breast mastectomies (one radical, one modified radical, I think I remember...) over thirty-thirty five (maybe longer ago) years ago! Their love is what kept her going.

She was in the very FIRST four yr program of Marquette University, and was Valedictorian of her class. She affiliated at St Joe's, and stayed active through alumni and other organizations.

He owned his own painting contracting business for many (nearly 60) years. He was US Coastguard Auxilliary for over 30 yrs. They traveled for many years on his boat, staying for months at a time in Florida, until he was no longer able to travel. They danced, and they traveled in his red Cadillac convertible, which he was so proud of. They still have it, still in very good condition. They lived in the same home for as long as I can remember...and my kids thought it was a palace, though it really was just a modest home.

Uncle Ray had white hair for as long as I can remember! And a mustache which was always well maintained. He was distinguished looking, to say the least. He never seemed to change, except that in the last few times I saw him, he looked just a little more fragile. He hated not being able to go out to eat the last few years, being more home-bound.

He read the news to my Aunt as her eyesight failed. And Aunt Jo said that a day or so before he died, he told her he was going to. She told him no... and he said ...yes. I think he sensed it, and tried to prepare her. I think SHE thought that by willing him not to, he would not leave her.... But God called...and he went Home....

We used to stop at their house all the time when we were on our way home to Springfield or on our way back to this area. I stayed there once, thinking that I was old enough....but got so homesick I even developed a fever! Uncle Ray heard the Ice Cream man outside, and bought me a whole bunch of fudgesicles to store in the freezer for when I got too homesick, but even that didn't work. Mom and Dad had to come get me (a two hour drive one way) early... but I never forgot that kindness he had. Their Jim was just a baby, then, I think!

They wanted kids, but kids just did not come. Until Jim. We often talked about our decision to adopt, their decision not to do so. She thought my kids were just wonderful. It was a difference in times, really....

But what a son they got! One very loving and kind, responsible, raising his daughter alone after divorce, including fighting for the right to do so! He has long had my admiration, including when he test road for Harley, complete with leathers and long hair....

Jim is four years younger than I am, and he will be 'alone' when his Mom dies as far as siblings go... He has his daughter, he has his fiancee (pray that they marry soon... sigh) and now, he is a bona fide grandpa himself. But he is now also totally responsible for his Mom.... and he just does not know how that will work out yet. She cannot stay alone alone, as she cannot see very well, nor hear well...and she is 89 yrs old. His friends fill in the gap of siblings in many ways, and perhaps even closer in others.

Pray for my Uncle Ray, my God mother Aunt Jo (the rest of the family calls her Gen... ie Genevieve Olga... oh, my!) and Jim, Debbie, Melanie, her husband Damon, and their infant son Leighton.

Uncle Ray, I love you. You will be missed by many.

God bless!
