Debate Tactics

I was looking for an older column of Fr Wm Saunder's tonight, and came across a newly published article that I find absolutely impelling, and something that needs to be read for MORE than just the topic that is discussed, as important as it is!

Why? Because Fr points out debating tactics that are used in MANY different areas today for a VARIETY of topics that many people fall for!

Debating the  Embryo's Fate
By Fr. Tadeusz Pacholczyk
Herald Columnist

Fr states:
Having participated in a number of these debates over the past few years, I've been surprised by how often certain arguments are trotted out with great solemnity, as if they were obviously right and true, even though a casual observer can quickly recognize their notable flaws and inadequacies..... snip ....Another tactic that is sometimes used during debates about the human embryo is to try to dissipate the energy of the argument over many options.

I have heard the same tactics used in debates on no fault forced, unilateral divorce, on prolife issues, on euthanasia issues, on embryonic stem cell issues....and lately, EVEN on changing the focus of whom a prolife voter should vote for!

Read it simply for the message that Fr Tad is trying to get across, but keep it in mind the next time someone tries to get you to change your position of pro-life choices, and other very important ethical and moral issues, ESPECIALLY in this time of early political candidate cramming down the throat that we are getting to accept LIBERAL candidates in sheep's clothing under the guise of being safe.

Remember that one man sold his birthright for a bowl of pottage long ago. He regretted it.
