Kelly Clarkson

I have written of Kelly Clarkson before, several times, regarding her video rendition of "Because of You". (That page takes you to a list of all of the previous entries, starting with this one...scroll down for more)

But today, I learned that she will sing Ave Maria for the Pope! You can read all about it at AmericanPapist: Not Your Average Catholic!

Meanwhile, the original video of "Because of You" (not the version with Reba) is on youtube, and you can watch it here... THIS version gives much more meaning, in my humble opinion, to those lyrics than the version by Reba and Kelly. It speaks much more to children of divorce than it does to the other situation.

God bless!

Addendum at 5:55 AM
I just watched another version of this song on youtube, but this one is a 'Sims Family' one, and it is also powerful. The person responsible for the video wrote "It's about a girl who is afraid to open herself up to relationships after seeing the pain a divorce caused her mother."

If you have never listened to the lyrics, it is perhaps time that you did.....

Because of You

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way, to never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake, a smile, a laugh
Every day of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you
I tried my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don't know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty
Because of you
I am afraid

Because of you

Because of you

I have had quite a few visitors doing google/other searches for "Kelly Clarkson Catholic", so others must also be wondering/trying to find out. I am not sure, but think she may be. I also do not know exactly why her video/song hits the child of divorce aspect so strongly--if she is in that group, or if she is just a good singer/actress...

But I do like most of her songs...

God bless!

Kelly is not Catholic, she is a baptist. She is VERY religious, and that song "Because of you" was written by her when she was 16. She is a child of divorce, and it affected her so, she wrote the song. The video concept was hers, and based on her life as a kid.
On her latest cd,"my December", she wrote a song about a desperate time she was going through in her life, at the time, called "Irvine". It's basically a prayer to God. It's never been released as a single, and she doesn't want it to be released, as it's such a personal song to her. But, recently, someone made a very powerful video to go with her song, here is the link, I think you may enjoy it.

Oh, Katey! That song is really very powerful for a lot of reasons, and I can relate to it easily in my own life at different times.

THANK you for sharing that url!

The first time I watched that video, I knew somehow that she knew what divorce does to the children (no matter HOW old those children may be!). It is a very powerful video. Very powerful.

And though 'animated', the Sims 2 version is also...

So my deep down feeling was correct. She had lived it. I thank you for sharing that, also.

God bless!!

Your welcome for the link. I found what Kelly had said about "because of you", right after it was released:

"It's about the cycle of families, like you act how your parents acted towards you and then your kids act how you acted towards them, and it's all about breaking that cycle if it was a bad one [...] It's one of those songs that everybody's kind of gonna relate to, but you're not happy about that. It's very close to home [for me]. I OK'd it with my family and everything because they think it's important, because we're obviously very different now than we were when we were younger. And it's important for people to see that raw kind of emotion that happens in life. It sucks sometimes, so it's important to see that I think. ”

It is VERY important, and so much more so for today's society. She is right, and that video is, I think, a gift from God to her. If she is the one who had the idea, and put her thinking into it, she is one very smart woman.

Thank you, Katie! Thanks for taking the time to give me this information.

(Now... Sober... is there a history to that one and a couple of others on her album?)

God bless, Katey! Come back anytime!
