WI Catholic Musings: Holocaust Survivor Speaks and Warns Us

Anyone who has read my profile will know that I am a reader of Historical Novels, and that I especially like those by Brock and Bodie Thoene. I have followed her since she had only two or perhaps three books out, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next new book in all of her series. Brock does the historical research, she does the writing.

Anyone familiar with her books may remember the story of Jacob and Lori.

Lori Kalner has been answering questions on their blog. The latest one is quoted below in part. It is relevant to the anniversary of Terri Schindler Schiavo's death two years ago, and the attitude that many today are being 'taught' is 'good' . Thinking that THEY are being 'merciful'... they are falling into the same trap of determining who is 'worthy of life' ... or 'non-productive eaters' of the Nazi T4 Program. Our Last Palm Sunday

At our last Palm Sunday pageant my friend in her wheelchair was dressed in a beautiful blue frock and her smile of joy was from deep within her. I pushed her chair. The branches of welcome for Jesus adorned her wheelchair and we children performed the coming of Jesus in triumph to Jerusalem riding on a colt.
Such music from the choir! J.S. Bach. The music from the great organ boomed as our true King entered! Such Hosannas of joy rang out, which I am sure rivaled those of the multitudes in Jerusalem on the day the King of Israel entered His city!
My silent little friend in her wheelchair began to weep with joy as the procession came near us. The Holy Spirit came upon her. Her hands had no strength to hold the branches but she raised up her hands and cried out loudly, “Yesu! Yesu!”
In her heart this was no mere pageant; she was living the true moment of the coming of her Lord. I knew this and I felt the warmth of the Holy Spirit physically flowing from her.
My heart was also full of the Lord, because of HER great joy and faith.
And then I looked up and saw the dark gaze of one whom I knew was a Nazi official. He fixed his hatred upon my friend in the wheelchair.

And yet…in the back of our church we saw Nazis wearing the armbands of the broken cross. They had seen my friend in the wheelchair. They were offended by her imperfection among the Aryan race. They did not see her great joy as she welcomed King Jesus into our midst. Nor did they see the special grace of God’s spirit descending on her among us all and filling her among us all. Instead, her name was set down in their black books for destruction.

Though I did not see Jesus descend in His glory in a physical way on that day, I saw His presence descend upon my little friend in her wheelchair!
How the evil one hated her joy that day! Satan marked her as among the first for destruction because her heart was so pure; so beautiful…though later those who were healthy and strong would look at her and say, “It’s kinder for her if we end such a half-life! Put this cripple out of our sight!”
