Wisconsin Mourns Native Son

Flags fly at half-mast in Wisconsin public places in honor of US Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. Many remember him, either as a fellow student, neighbor, employee during his Wisconsin youth, or as a member of the US Supreme Court.

ALAN J. BORSUK has two columns at the site devoted to Rehnquist, one from Sept 3, announcing his death, and a second , which, though long, is a good review of his life.
The Journal-Sentinel has a timeline of his life at their site, as well as a couple of editorials.
The Post Crescent carried a story with the comments of our two US Senators, Feingold and Kohl, as well as a short AP article that includes an anecdote about a Wisconsin Badger/Stanford Cardinal game he attended while here to give the oath of office to WI Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson in 1996.
“The game presented something of a problem for the Chief Justice: the Wisconsin Badgers faced the Stanford Cardinals,” Abrahamson said in a statement Sunday. “When the Badgers won (14-0) he was able to celebrate with a light heart. As he explained to an appreciative crowd at my investiture, he brought mixed loyalties to the game, "but I resolved them in favor of Wisconsin in the second half.’”

Related to his death, the Journal-Sentinel also carried other stories, columns about
Judge John Roberts
Columnists:
John Roberts
Timothy Walch: Give Judge Roberts some breathing room
Erwin Chemerinsky: Once again, a nomination that's too conservative
Ellen Goodman: Again, who is John Roberts and what does he believe?
