Longstanding abortion protest goes on | StarTribune.com

Pawlenty urged those who attended the lunchtime rally to be committed, but also respectful. "As we are advocates, and we need to be strong advocates and unflinching advocates, we need to do that in a loving way," he said.

"When we change hearts and minds, the laws and the legislatures and the courts will follow," Pawlenty said. "We will do that by being respectful, kind and loving to others that we want to join the cause."

Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a rising star among conservatives, garnered the loudest applause at the rally.

"Good morning! It's a beautiful prolife day in the state of Minnesota," Bachmann said.

She warned that President Obama is trying to make good on his "pro-abortion campaign rhetoric."

"The out-of-touch, arrogant people who now control this nation are not listening to the prolife majority in the United States," she said. "They are hellbent on promoting abortion as a viable means of birth control. Does this make sense?"

No, the crowd cheered.

"It's one battle at a time, and we are winning," she said.
