Waupun Hostage Situation Made it all the way to Pravda!
I slept in late today. Working night shift, one has a tendency to not keep the 'normal' hours of the world. So I had not yet had my TV or my puter on when the phone rang for the second time today. The first time was my boss. The second time was a close friend from VA wanting to know if I was OK... why? Because of the hostage situation at the Waupun Prison.
I turned on the TV after reassuring her that I am fine, and no longer working in the prison system through the nursing agency. Even if I had been, this was not the prison I was working at. When I turned on the TV, it was just in time to learn that the hostage had just been released.
As a result, I have not seen any further coverage on the topic. So I googled it, and imagine my surprise to see that this had made it into PRAVDA!!!
I am glad that the female hostage was released safely, and was not 'threatened'. It is also interesting to note that the prisoner's biggest demand was for cigarettes. In Waupun Correctional Institute prison since 2004 after being convicted for murder in Douglas County in 1992, he may now be spending a long time in Segregation for his actions. Not cool.

from what i hear - he wanted cigarettes for the hostage because she was a smoker.
There is no smoking on the prison property by staff or inmates in any of the prisons, as I understand it. I was told that she was in a closet most of the time... not a good place to smoke. Not sure how the prison officials would handle it in this case, either.
I was with prison employees last night (not from Waupun) and none of them had heard this.
