Congressman Allen West's Defense Spending Cuts Legislation
Unanimously Passes House of Representatives

(Washington) ---- The United States House of Representatives today passed H.R. 1246- which will cut he Department of Defense printing and reproduction budget by 10 percent- by a unanimous vote of 393 to 0. Today's outcome marks Congressman West's first successful piece of legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am pleased that my fellow members of the House of Representatives listened to the American people and passed HR 1246," West said. "H.R. 1246 helps us keep our promise to the American public that we will cut wasteful government spending and spend taxpayer dollars more efficiently."

HR 1246 cuts are aimed at wasteful Defense Department spending and will not affect the overall mission of America's men and women in uniform in protecting our national security.
A mere ten percent reduction in the printing budget will save taxpayers $35.7 million in fiscal year 2012 and nearly $180 million over the next five years.

"All government programs must be thoroughly scrutinized, including the Department of Defense," West said. "After serving 22 years in the United States Army, I am aware of areas where saving money is very possible. My challenge is for every Member of Congress to detect where they can also shave wasteful spending. If that were to happen, one can only imagine what kind of impact that would have on our federal budget."
